A spokesman for the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades in Gaza declined to say whether the statement represented the views of the entire group or certain factions. The spokesman described the statement as a "natural response" after Mr Seyam ordered his forces to take to the streets of Gaza on Sunday to confront striking policemen demanding overdue salaries. Clashes between rival Hamas and Fatah forces quickly erupted and spread. but if the pressure leads to a unity government that recognises Israel without the corruption of Fatah it will hopefully improve the living conditions which are some of the worst in the world, its the average Palestinian on the street which is suffering unimaginable pain

Actually, I saw on SBS news the night before this came up that there had been gun battles between the two groups, and someone (possibly from Hamas - I don't recall) was quoted as saying it was a plot by Israel.
