Help a new comer ^^

I've been listening to trance for a couple years now(mainly acid and uplifting) and I was thinking about starting to produce my own stuff just for the love it. Yet, im not quite sure about which synths and drum machines and all that to get. So if anyone can help me I would be very much appreciated. Also, any tips about anything would be very nice!

Hi VaG,

First of all welcome! When considering production, you should think of the following.

Hardware is cool, but accumulating enough hardware to be able to do a full sized production xan become quite expensive. Esp. if you want to have the right stuff.

You shoudl also consider going "soft": PC/Mac based means you at least need a decent fast computer with dito soundcard. Then you have roughly 2 options: go for an all in one suite, such as Live 5/6, Reason or FL Studio. There all in one (so sequencing, soft synths, FX's etc), and can realy pump out some impressive stuff.

Or you could go for a program such as Logic or Cubase, with 3rd party plug-ins, possibly also hardware. Programs such as Cubase and the likes offer steep learning curve, but vast posibilities.
Obviously you can combine all of these, but this is probably not helpful in the learning stage.

Purely personal, I would recommend to start of with Live or Reason (I do not know FL), since it is fully integrated and fairly plug-and-play in its basic use. You'll need a decent computer and soundcard tho.

Also : check out the stickys on top of the thread list: they offer a huge amount of info!

I think that you could try out Reason from propellerheads. Its a complete software workstation, with all things to get you going and learning the basics in midi, synth programing, etc, etc!

And there are alot of good tutorials on the web on how!

Thats where i started a couple of years ago.

Otherwise, if you want to get started with vstīs i would recomend this!

Ableton Live or Cubase (Sequencer)
Novation V-station (Vst) 3 Osc synth. Good for leads and basslines!
Native-Instruments Pro-53(Vst) 2 Osc synth. same here, but with a sharper and more analog sound!
Vanguard (Vst) 3 Osc synth. Good for melodies and leads!
Korg Legacy collection (Vst) 3 classic synths from Korg, which you can combine and run single. Good for everything....i think!

So this is just my personal favorites, but there are more!

Then you would need a midikeyboard, a pair of studio monitors and some good studio headphones!

Maybe not that much of help, but its something!

Cheers
C

There be dragons - it's to quell the flow of these questions from the 3700 other greenhorns who do pay attention.

I know, you were being sarcastic, that was just in case any readers thought you were serious.
