I am not one bit musically inclined and want to know what software is capable of creating quality trance music the best. I know theres Techno E-Jay for PC but that seems just a bit cheesy and in Japan theres alot of buzz about beatmania (theres even a turntable style controller) for Playstation 2 and of course theres Frequency by Harmonix. But besides what ive mentioned is there a standard or a
go-to program for dummies that have a good ear for trance and wanna try and create it now? All replies are really apreciated. Thanks

try fruity loops ... its a good program to use to make trance music... i think most people would agree. but there are tons of other programs out there.

Not fruity loops! No one in there right mind would actually produce a good tune in fruity loops! Its easy to use, and if u had ur own samples it would be good. And not E-Jay either, thats real shit, where as fruity loops can be good. Use Reason by Propellerhead. This is considered as a professional production prgram, and is awesome to produce techno/trance. Infact a friend who I've known along time from Sweden produced a track and its going to be released by Q Records. The tracks called Steamer by Jonathan S. Its his first production, its tribal techno.

To tell you the truth, All of the music software out their is crap. If anything, Use GOld Wave or Cool Edit Pro. Thats the best thing for cutting wav file's or recording records onto your computer. As for mixing and music production, I wouldnt reccomend anything, But if I had to against my will, I would recomend Propellerheads Reason, Which is very hard.

Reason is not that hard to learn, just open up the demo file, play it, and click on all the buttons to see whats going on, and what things make what noises. Thats how I learned it, but it takes a long time to make stuff that sounds good. eJay is good if you are not good with musical composition, becuase they have prerecorded loops. I think there's a Music Generator on ps2 that is very similar aswell.

Too true. The more fetures, the more things you can do with a piece of software, then the more complicated its going to be. It's common sense really. Things like E-jay are good for very very early beginners, in a kind of learning-how-dance-music-is-structured kind of way, but for making anything that actually sounds any good you're going to need something a lot better like Reason or Cuebase for sequencing and various other synths, both software and hardware.

Thats true, Reason is certainly A LOT harder to learn than fruityloops, but I don't think i've heard a good tune produced either in Fruityloops or eJay, but Fruityloops certainly helps learn some basic stuff, I was quite good at fruityloops b4 I went on to Reason, it was like starting from scratch again.

Seeing as you mentioned Playstation and PS2, there is Music 2000 which is actually pretty powerful considering it's for a games console and if you've got no experience with sequencer software it's not too bad. A good place to start to get some idea of how it all works. If you delve deeply into it you can add in and edit your own samples. I've made some fun stuff with it but it's not ever going to be studio quality.

Fruityloops is awesome value for money. It is much maligned, unfairly, I'm sure the slightly comical name doesn't help. The current full Version of 3.4 (not the demo or middle version) is $99. It is easy to learn the basics and you can be making great sounding tunes in a matter of weeks. It's major limitation is it's lack of real-time audio support -- so you can't sing along to something easily. But it can be done. When SampleCity.net comes back up, if ever, you can hear a bunch of people who have taken Fruity to a really high level -- more so than you would believe possible with the demos that come with it. The other big problem with Fruity is the final sound -- to get it good you've got to use something else.

The only way to get a near perfect sound (cos you're probably not going to shell out thousands for a Pro-Tools set up) is to use something like Cubase or Logic as the heart of your set-up, plus Reason. And did I say you need a high spec computer to run the hungry stuff like Reaktor and all those lovely VSTis and FX?

Always use the best quality samples cos garbage in = garbage out. And qood synths are a must too. And a good pair of ears. And finally some inspiration and talent goes without saying.

it depents m8... some ppl manage to get some nice tracks outta it..
just listen to for instance ligthworks... all u need is the right samples.. i think thats the problem with fruity.. if u don`t have good samples.. its a worthless program.. but if u have for instance an hardware synth.. and u make some nice samples with it.. its a very usefull program.. also.. it depends on how well u know the program.. if u know all of fruity`s features.. u`ll be able to make professional sounding tracks with it..
