Woohoo I brought my DJ equipment to Brazil (good flight tips inside)!

I just arrived in Brazil (moved here for work and my girlfriend for the next year or so), a leason learned how to bring an oversized Roadready flight case, just a nudge over 70 lbs. (luckily, I only had to pay the airline's oversize fee, not an overwieght fee too), with my DJM-600 and CDJ-800s. I made sure every single accessory was packed separately, to keep the weight to a minimum. It was supposed to come in at 69.8, but was 72. The specs lied.

In Brazil, first it helped that I can speak some Portuguese. For only the 2nd time in 8 trips, I had to have all my bags scanned at customs (cause I had way too much shit). The girl at the scanner asked if this was for DJing, and I said, "Yeah, do you like Techno or Trance?" (Trying to make the mood light), then she laughed, and sent me next to the very nice Federal Police woman, who asked me if it was for work and if I was going to leave it in Brazil, and I said no way, I am visting my girlfriend for just a few months and I am taking this with mem when I go (true I am going to have to leave and return on a work visa in a few), and it's only to have a party at home, and I couldn't be without my music! She laughed and smiled, once I said girlfriend, she knew it was all good. Also I brought a copy of my receipts to prove I have owned them a few years, and they weren't new. It avoided me having to open everything up too.

I am glad I brought my stuff, cause this is a huge asset here, and I can help some friends throw some huge parties (up to 5,000 people) that I would never get to do in SF. not to mention, I can get all new stuff back in the US some day.

If you're ever coming to Brazil, PM me, I'm pretty knowledgeable about places to go for travel, music, etc...

Tchau!
