Question Most underrated/overrated cities in Europe?

i'll be taking a trip to Europe this summer and I wanted to know some really good places to go. i went two years ago and i really liked Paris, the Rhine valley (Germany), Amsterdam, Brussels, and just about all of northern Italy. I didn't get to go to the UK, Spain, or Scandanavia.

do any of you Europeans or travelers have any good tips/advice?

well i just got back from the Skåne, Copenhagen area of Scandinavia and it was the shit. it would be rediculously fun in the summer tho. Lund is kind of a chill University city with not much going on, but Copnehagen is beautiful (and has Christiania if thats your thing, imagine a little, chill Amsterdam). ive heard nothing but great things about Malmö although ive never stopped there (it lies between Lund and Copenhagen). Scandinavia is in general overlooked by most travellers. if you are looking for something low key tho its definitely where its at...wish i had more time there... late/

Eire (Ireland) it has some nice cities visit Dublin its a very nice city only thing to realise Ireland isn't as rich as the UK, Holland, France and Germany its had a big boom in recent years but theres still many deprieved areas in most of the cities, the nightlife in Dublin is great you can have a nice beer and guiness and people there will be friendly with you and very hospitable however don't get in any arguements with them whilst your in a pub just in general be polite, because after they've had a few beers and a disagreement happens I guarentee if your the person argueing you will get twatted very hard in the face and dropped like a ton of bricks, so just let that be a friendly warning because Irish people haven't got the best of temperments , when your out keep in the tourist areas of the city don't wonder off into the back streets in a drunken state cos theres probably people hanging around there waiting for drunken tourists, and a couple and punches and kicks and your wallet and their off. But their the down points theres some very nice points to the country like nice arcitechture, nice nightlife, generally friendly locals, and their a very hospitable bunch too.

UK I live in the uk, and theres some nice cities here, Londons nice its like a mixture of old and new, its got a lot chracter and theres a lot to do aswell, only minor problem with London is there has been a wee crime increase according to the media like theres been a lot of shootings but mind you your not a gangster so you shouldn't worry about that, its got excellent nightlife not the best for Trance though Gallery @ turmills is a trance, techno, prog night very been there but read got reports on it, also Peach @ Camden Palais has Armin and Ferry there a fair bit.

Birmingham If you can visit this city some people will say the place is a dive but its not, Godskitchens there every friday at Code a very good trance night recommended. Also there sundisential on a saturday at Club DNA if you like your Hard House, and Session @ Code on a wednesday or thursday Steve Lawlers the resident and he has a lot of prog djs there like Sasha and Diggers etc.

Sheffield Get yourself up to Gatecrasher thats all I can say, other thing the native people of Sheffield according to my dad are the best people in England my dad went to Uni there and says there the most friendlist warmest people mind you we're talking about 1974 here lol.

theres too many cities in the UK to comment on

Spain I dunno much about Spanish cities but the medditerrainian coast be warned is where 100000s of europeans like to take their holidays especially boozed up Brits , Ibiza might be a nice place to try even though I dunno if theres actually a city there.

Cool Let's dream a little....

Hit the Mediterranean coast.. main points: Lisbon -> Madrid -> Spanish coastline - from Seville to Barcelona + Ibiza & Majorca -> French Riviera: Marseille to Monte Carlo (and hit Corsica if you have time)-> down Tyrrhenian coast of Italy: Genoa -> Firenza -> Pisa -> Perugia -> Roma -> Napoli -> Amalfi -> Sicilia -> hop to Malta and then the icing on the cake: Greece, start of with Aegean islands, and Athens is a must. From there you wouldn't wanna miss the breathtaking Adriatic coast - if you follow through from Montenegrian and Croatian coastlines you'll end up in Venice.
I've seen most of these places.. but this is a tour I am dreaming to take.
Realistically, if this is too much (pressed for time & $$) go to Spain only or Italy only.

go to barcellona. check out all the Gaudi things if you can. A day on him alone could take your entire day, maybe more. GORGEOUS STUFF!

heres my question (and its not meant to be racist at all) Europeans developped great art, as did africans, asians, s. americans, while n.american indians developped so little in art. WHY!

i'm going to put in a second vote for Copenhagen. I visited there last summer and it IS the shiz-nit. Very beautiful city with a lot of history.

I also like Rothenberg (sp?) in southeast germany, kinda on the way to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (also a great visit spot).... Rothenberg is a cool VERY old-style town with walls all the way around the city and small streets.... its on the way to Garmisch from Berlin, close to Nurburgring.... Garmish-Partenkirchen is also very beautiful... they have the Zugspitze there, the highest point (i believe) in germany... you can ride the tram to the top, where there is still snow in the summer... beautiful views too. Garmish is like the USA equivalent to Aspen i've found (from personal experience).... only not on such a grandiose scale.

but anyway, so peace. have fun.

maybe cause it isnt what europeans consider art, or just the fact we destroyed it all, and their culture... late/

A small town called Leeuwarden...home of.......ME!!!!

No really, it's nice and quiet out here, but not much to do, clubbing-wise....I'd say for Holland, try to visit Rotterdam and the "Veluwe" (see if you can rent a bike and cycle thru the woods) and up north (near me) make sure you visit one of the "Wadden-Islands", of which Vlieland is the most beautiful and fun to hang out on.

My preference holiday-wise goes definitely to Germany!!! I just love every small village or big city in that country! Especially in the summer, when the farmers are out on their lands and you can smell fresh hay in the air and stuff...MMMMMMM

I've ben to Antwerp (Belgium) once, and I really really liked that town, there's this big square in the centre with lil pubs and bars all around it, and all the streets are really beautiful and the people are friendly etc etc...

Just have fun, and lemme know if you're in the hood

A couple of cities where I've been to and amazed me are: Barcalona, Helsinki & Stockholm.
I really had some good quality time there.

But I still have a lot of fun when I'm in Amstardam for example. That city is stil amazing.

Thumbs up

My very biased opinion, but I think Reykjavik, Iceland is one of the coolest cities around

Its starting to become kind of trendy to go there, but for the longest time many people thought of it like a hidden gem...
