Anyone have some good computer knowledge? Need Help.

Okay so recentely my computer has been acting up, i dont know what it is, either graphics card or memory but this is what happens.

Whenever I run a game or some sort of application my screen gets these little 1.5x1.5 inch flashing red glitche boxes, theyre not totally solid theyre just like boxed glitch lines. I dont get why, and every time I open up some application that has that glitch thing happening my PC freezes, screen goes black then comes back to color and my pc is frozen.

Im not really sure what it is but here are some images from applications and quicktime running a movie trailer at 1080p. It happens usually at higher res but when i play the sims 2 it happens at all res. sounds like a graphics card thing but why would it make my pc freeze? would that be a memory error too?

I should also not it doesnt happen on my desktop or in thigns such as firefox, FLStudio. My graphics drivers and DirectX drivers are all up to date, even tried installing custom drivers from tweaksrus.com. Same thing happens.

Geforce 6800 GTOC and a Gig of DDR400 ram.

I've had something similar, but without the freezing. For example, if I put a DVD in as soon as I've started my Mac, it'll play fine but if I put it on after I've done a few things on it before hand and put one in later, it displays glitches. I've never known what causes it.

dodgy connection perhaps?

my computer freezes up sometimes if i play games too long, im just guessing the gfx card has had it(prone to overheating because the fan thing decided to stop working)

It really pisses me off, I hate spending money on a computer all the time, this usually happens in DVD/Video/Visual software. If something is fried which it probably is then ill go insane.

Just an FYI, we have a tech forum - this should be moved there
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forum/f...p?s=&forumid=95

To answer your question, to me it seems like a combination of problems. Try updating your codecs first which shouldn't necessarily fix the error but it'll help keep those drivers up-to-date. Try divx codecs which should already be installed in GeForce cards.

Next check to see if your video card is properly cooled, it shouldn't hurt to invest in proper cooling systems especially if you are running optimal video resolutions.

The best troubleshooting technique is to pop the card out, pop another video card in and see if you are getting the same problems. Also make sure to check your VGA/DVI connectors don't have any dust in them (in the pins), same goes for the PCI-E or AGP slot where you plug the card into the MOBO.

Chances are its a faulty connection Vid-Mobo or connectors, or even a bad card in itself.

Wish you the best of luck and you'll get better responses in the tech forums.

Some of your hardware (probably video card) might be getting too hot. Download speedfan and it will show you your system temps. everything should be 40-50 or lower celsius when you're not doing anything (unless you have an ATI videocard, which can get pretty hot). If that's not the case, try updating all of your drivers

The lines are probably because your monitor connector or the connector on the back of the gpu are either not connected good or the pins are messed up. That or your card isn't seated correctly in the MB. For the other issue it's probably your gpu not being able to stay stable with the settings you have and its freezing. Try lower settings. Make sure you defrag weekly, virus scan, registry edit, run ccleaner, run scandisk, run adware, atleast once every 2 weeks or even week if you have the time. If all else fails have it check by a professional and get dianostics on the card or the board to find out if there is a mechanical malfunction. If so have it rmaed.
