Re: [Review] Jason Jollins & ATB @ Pacha 10-21-2006

ATB pretty much played a lot of tracks that he's been playing in his live sets this year. His sets from Mayday Uninex, Goalith and Nature One that will give you a good idea of what his Pacha set was like. Here are some I remember in no particular order:
ATB - Esctasy (Clubb Mix)
K&A - Kiksu
Chicane feat. Bryan Adams - Don't Give Up (Alex Gold & The Sound Express Remix
Aalto - 5
Envio - For You
Filo & Peri Feat. Fisher - Ordinary Moment
ATB - Let U Go (Clubb Mix)
It was a slightly cheesy affair (ie: 9 Pm Til I Come) and I loved it!!! Anyhow, ATB played his last track at like 4:35ish and Jason Jollins finished out. I enjoyed Jason's earlier set but his second set was damn good and kept a ton of people dancing until 6am. All in all, it was a nice event...
(I might add more once I've had some sleep) |
I also remember a new remix of ATB - 'Marrakech', Madonna - 'What it feels like for a girl (Paul Oakenfold remix)', also I think Jollins played an awesome non-vocal remix of Mischa Daniels - 'Take Me Higher' which he closed his opening set with and also used to open his closing set. Was Chicane - 'Don't Give Up' the one that sounded like a mash-up of 'Don't Stop' and 'Honey'?
As for the rest of the night, it was very crowded for the first hour of ATB's set (1:30-2:30) then got better, more room to dance. Jason Jollins opened strong, and closed with some banging house tunes, but left around 5:40 ish. Hated all those obnoxious big dudes/dufuses who would just walk in front of you and stand uninterested, blocking your view and area. F*ing wastes of space, either move or get out, don't come to these events! ATB played some good hard techy stuff as well, I was expecting some euro-popish tunes all night, but last night was a pleasant surprise. I'll post some videos I have on youtube later (unfortunately my camera cuts it off max length 1 minute)...Was well worth the trip to NYC to see an electronica legend!

click here for Don't Give Up video, this isn't the remix though.
i know how you feel about the obnoxious people, i had a couple people literally stand 1 inch in front of me and not move. i've gotten to the point where i just tell people nicely they are stepping on/pushing me and that they should stop right now because it's rude. most will stop.

yeah thanks for pointing out the video. Sorry that mash-up I mentioned was not "Honey", was a non-vocal "Beachball" with "Don't Stop", how could I mess that ibiza classic up, haha? I also want to mention I was very impressed with ATB's energy, he's always pumping his fits, jumping up and down, even more than AvB usually does. Really drives the energy of the crowd. Well maybe he can afford to have that much energy given he does not seem to tour much at least in the US...

atb
not a bad night, it was full of energy, atb really pumped up the crowd. he actually split his set in 2 by dropping a piano solo (kinda cheesy I think) and then restarting with beachball. I thought his 2nd half was going to be all classics, he was playing 9pm til I come etc. and what it feels like for a girl. quite a good night, good vibe, danced quite a bit. he also played chicane-autumn tactics (thrillseekers mix), another classic which I notice gets handpicked by trance dj's today, pvd has been dropping that too. quite a treat to hear don't give up in a club!
I totally dug jason jollins' sets before and after atb. he played some sick prog starting from around 11:30, kinda took me back to the twilo days when sasha or some other names would play hours of great prog, most of it unknown even by trainspotters like myself. I didn't know most of the tracks jason played and they were all great. I appreciate the fact that he stayed away from the electro bandwagon and played such cool prog house, I would be constantly seeing him whenever he plays now..his style last night reminded me of a good set by sasha or jimmy van m when I used to like those guys..
