U of T question

Hey i know a lot of u go to uoft. I am in gr 12 now and applying there too and on the form i got there are seven colleges i have to choose from and i have to rank them in order of preference. I am really confused about what colleges to choose. This is the list:

Innis College
New College
St. Michaels College
Trinty College
University College
Victoria College
Woodsworth College

I already know that Trinty and St. Michaels are religious colleges and Woodsworth is for part time students, so those go to the bottom of my list but there are four others left

Innis College
New College
University College
Victoria College

I went to their websites but they are very biased and not very informative. So could someone who knows please explain pros and cons of each college and/or give their recomendations. Thanks in advance. Any help is much appreciated.

I am a part of St. Michael's College (and I am not religious). The college has very friendly staff (for instance at the library, the registrar's office, etc).

My experience has been that the importance of your college lies almost wholly in the fact that the registrar's office is (almost always) your number one stop for all academic-related concerns. For those who take a very active role in extra-curricular activities, your college choice may be a little more crucial insofar as the colleges conduct their own events, such as sports leagues, parties, etc.

I'm guessing that as more UofT people post replies, you'll get a good sense of which college to choose.

One other thing, don't be worried about calling up the different colleges and asking for some general info to help you decide.

Nick

So would u recommend me to put st. michael's college as number one choice?
Btw which colleges are closest to the subway?

My experience at St.Mike's has been very positive, however I do not know too much about the other colleges and so I recommend that you wait to see what other TAs have to say about their colleges

All of the colleges are pretty close to the subway stops: Woodsworth is right by St. George, St. Mike's is by Museum, etc.

me too, Nick...but probably spent a combine of one year around that part of campus...

If you're planning on living on res. then you should consider Innis (depends on your grades), UC, New or Vic...

Commuting - then choose New for sure (lowest incidental fees)...I believe it's between Trin and St. Mikes that have the highest incidental fees...

Unless you plan on living on res. it really doesn't matter which college you choose...it's more likely that you'll associate yourself more with the people in your program rather than the people in your college...

Congrats and Good luck

If UoT's colleges are anything like Western's colleges (per when I went to UWO) then it doesn't matter what college you're actually a part of (since the degree is the same in the end).

People chose various colleges at UWO based on either the college's academic focus or the college's benefits (based on size and personalized service and support). Also, some colleges at UWO had varying academic entrance requirements (so some chose them based on their specific high-school academic performance/focus).
