well the way i read it was you want to build your own kick from scratch w/ out samples? go buy a kick drum is all i was thinking.

i understand english probably isn't your first language. anyways, you're going to need sample CD's with kicks that are one shots or rmx files that you can splice individual instruments with. DO NOT buy drum loops if you're looking to rebuild your own kicks.

Airwaves tutorial about eq'ing and compression are also essential, go read!

well i meant something like this:

i took this basic kick made in ableton (operator - analog kick 1) - sample

what effects/compression/anything should i use, to make this kick as near as possible to this one (not so clear one, taken from street angels - another day) - sample

i will also check on material you guys suggested @ booster - it is a very good tutorial IMHO, just I didn't have same samples nor same plugins to achieve the same result

Well, the frequencies on the kick you create are nowhere near the same. You'll have to play with the start frequency, end frequency, and length of the kick such that the "tone" of the kick is as near as possible (yours has a way higher end frequency). After that, you'll really want to just compress the shit out of it to give it more loudness, then probably layer some type of highhat or snare on top of it that's filtered out to give it more presense in the mids.

Use a pretty high attack on the compressor, like 30-50ms, too give it a nice thump.

Hey mate you should use Camelphat for your kicks it's great for getting good thump on kicks...dj pulser had a good tip for it also

2. Another tip for the BP filter on Camel Phat is to clean up loops or add weight to bass drums. I usually roll-off the ultra low frequencies of kicks by inserting a camelphat on the drum channel then use the low fader to slowly move up the frequency range. Usually when you get to 30-40hz (depending on your monitors) you'll notice an increase in perceived volume as the inaudible frequencies are shelved out. This adds punch and weight to bass drums and bass lines and can really pull out the dynamics of drum loops. Use the High control to remove top end noise then add some exciter to make a sound sparkle. Also try shelving out low frequencies then reintroduce them with the magic eq set at around 60-70hz.....phat!

hey craig, i use camelphat for that ExACT measure. do you use camelspace as well? i'm finding myself only using it for atmosphere stuff, curious if you found it useful for anything else.

haven't tried camelspace but iv'e heardits good for morphing pads ect into riffs ill have to try that out...is it worth getting? would you recommend it?
