I don't know about those pad thingies... they just aren't tactile enough. I had a Philips Pronto universal remote (touchpad), and I didn't like it because you can't "feel" the buttons. I would imagine this would be similar.
The CTRL-92 is interesting, but you really end up having some of the same problems when using it with Ableton (and Decks) as you would with a DJM-800.
I think A+H should release the Xone 3D without the "Xone 92-like" mixer in the middle.
Think about it, the only interaction between the midi portion of the 3D and the mixer portion is:
1. MIDI clock
2. Direct connection to the soundcard
If you've already got a mixer with MIDI, the clock is taken care of, and you really only need one output from Ableton into your mixer (if you have a nice controller).
So what I want is the MIDI portion and the soundcard portion of the 3D, and I can connect that up to my 92 and I'd be very happy.
