I have to say, I think Göttingen is Nomansland

I don´t live in that area, so i don´t know exactly what´s there going on, so i cant help u much :/

Djs like Blank&Jones and ATB play often in Germany, probally also in this area, although i don´t know any Partys there. Seeing Armin van Buuren in Germany is impossible, he isn´t booked for this Year. He has to got to the Netherlands for this (probally 4 hours by car). The same for Tiesto.
Paul van Dyk is also very difficult to see in Germany. He mostly plays on big Events (Mayday, Loveparade) or in Berlin.

I`ve never been to Göttingen myself, but a friend of mine (a non trance believer...) studies there and from what he says it must be quite a good place for an education programm but I don`t know anything about the trance scene in Göttingen.

But I think you can listen SSL (Radio) there. They host some good shows sometimes (Dumonde a few weeks ago) and there probably should be a good chance to see some (german) DJ`s if you take the effort to travel a bit by train. When is your friend going? He might want to go to Mayday in May and Loveparade in June.
