Why is trance a "You either love it or you hate it" genre?

What is it about trance that people either love it or hate it? It seems like the world now as we know it only exists two types of people- we have people like us who live and breathe trance 24/7, and we have people who would rather die than give those syths and basslines a chance. Other genres (like pop or rock, for instance), on the other hand,is generally accepted to be "good" music.
Do any of you just stop and ponder sometimes "Why did it evolve this way?"

because people like to grouped/classified as a certain type of person in order to fit in and be cool.

i use to listen to techno (oldtimers call it techno, no electronica ... probably non US/CA people call it techno also) 24/7 but now i will listen to other stuff as well, including some styles that are more guitar oriented. i've always preferred electronic styles though even before techno (such as depeche mode, new order, skinny puppy, etc.).

I find it very hard to like other styles of music, i have tried to like grunge music , i have tried to like rock , pop and indy. Dont get me wronf there is some very very good groups out there , i love the verve , david grey , i like craig david and a DRE , DMX , but at end of the day Trance always chills me out and i can communicate my feelings with the music, i guess im a TA

Well I don't love OR hate trance...

I love and hate all music equally, I rate music whether it is listenable and well made instead of putting it to genres...

I think most people either love or hate Trance depending on how much of an effort they make to find the 'real' trance. Let's face it, how many people on this forum dis-like Darude yet love Trance? Darude (and similar pop-Trance) is the only experience of Trance lots of people will ever have.

Everyone hears stuff like ATB, Darude etc and many people will make a decision as to whether they like or dislike Trance when they listen to these tracks. What they may not realise is that they have not heard 'real' Trance. In order to hear this they need to make an effort, e.g go to a club or go and buy a good Trance CD which people who don't like the most commercial trance will not do.

I say the industry should start releasing songs in their original form on CD. This way people get to hear real trance music. For example Riva's Stringer. This was a great song but it was massacred beyond recognition with vocals and structural changes for CD release. Just give it to the public how the artist originally intended! I think more people would like Trance.

I disagree with you that Trance is an "either love or hate" genre!
There are lots of people who enjoy Fragma and ATB, for instance.
This is "light Trance." It's very accessible.
In addition, I think everyone likes some form of dance/club music!

yea i agree with this. People who arent into trance, usually find themselves kinda liking a few dance tracks, or a few anthems

Agreed, i have friends that 'enjoy' my music and ask me to play it when i am with them but they don't live it the way i do. I listen to their music, and i enjoy it, but it is not the same as trance. But they still do not buy albums or DL copious amounts of i t like me. They aren't an addict like me and if i am with them for a long period after a while they want tolisten to something else. Whatever, i will keep bein a TA.

Trance to some: Anoying crappy electronic songs.

Trance to others: Fun rave music! Oooh....do you think you're better off alone? Lets get a hit!

Trance to us: Life

U are wrong! There is at least one person that is somehow indifferent to trance. It's me
Yes, trance doesn't do too much for me unless it's very hard and slammin, acid or with lots of tek influence...
I'm 99% acid tekno addict and don't really understand your music, the same as some of u can't understand mine
The more emotional a trance track is, the more likely it is that i'll just leave it out. It just doesn't affect me at all

...now i'm waiting for boos, flames, and phrases like "then what the hell are you doing here, biatch?" or "go find yourself a technoaddict.com, you pice-of-shit addict"... so feel free to express your opinions (if any) here or through PMs. And maybe we'll have another peaceful discussion about which genre is better and which one is a repetitive crap that is for complete losers and retarded persons
