Anyone have any experience with a divx/xvid DVD player?

Wondering if I should buy a new player that supports them?

Why not just convert the videos to dvd format, make an iso and burn it so it will work on all dvd players?

I've experimented with this a couple of times.

My main attempt was to convert Life on Mars ep 1 into a DVD.
It took about 4 hours to convert I think. And then when I watched the thing there seemed to be a number of issues with it (the video colour had shifted somewhat and there were sound sync problems).
I tried it again with another file and a different conversion program with about as much luck.

So for $60 a new DVD player seemed like the easier route.

well if it is $60 then definetly buy, will save you time

I got a Zensonic Z330 - it's a local brand. Plays everything I've thrown at it so far. Best of all if you have a foreign movie and can only get the subtitles in srt format it automatically displays them too... no need to stuff around with lossy conversion. The firmware upgrades were really easy for it too.
Tho I think now the company is now only pushing the z500 which has a crapload more features including wireless, but is significantly more expensive. http://www.z500series.com

Phillips 642 is great and hackable
I have the pioneer dv 383, plays everything i put in it except Real Video and QT since no dvd player plays it yet.

I have one that supports DivX, I regret not getting one that supports DivX HD.

i got an LG something or rather. it was insanely cheap, but apparently the best available at the time in terms of compatability. i recommend them highly, yet to have a movie that doesnt work

I have the DVP642 works fine does what it's supposed to do.
Wish it played HD


And in regards to Realvideo and QT ( especially QT ) it would rock if some players played that.
I have loads of QT content.
