More violence in clubland

Dallas & I drove past the yellow tape last night on the way home, and knew something very bad had happened. Cops were EVERYWHERE down there. I tell you, I don't even like driving thru clubland on a weekend, let alone, want to go out to a club there anymore, I'm afraid of stray bullets, I tell ya.

Officer stabbed in club district brawl
Nov. 12, 2006. 08:10 AM
JOSH WINGROVE
STAFF REPORTER

Five men, including one police officer, were taken to hospital with stab wounds after an early-morning fight in Toronto’s club district.

Police responded to a Parkway parking lot on the southwest corner of Adelaide and John Sts. shortly after 2:30 a.m. The officer had been flagged down to intervene in a fight when he was stabbed, Toronto police Duty Desk Sgt. Sean Lenfesty said.

Ambulance crews rushed the officer to St. Michael’s hospital with stab wounds to the head. The officer "sustained the most minor injuries" of all the victims, Toronto Ambulance duty officer Connie Christie said.

Three others were taken to St. Michael’s with serious stab wounds, including one who suffered serious injuries to his neck, Lenfesty said.

A fifth was taken to Toronto Western Hospital with "some nasty gash wounds to his cheek," Christie said.

One 22-year-old male suspect was taken into custody at the scene. A second suspect was later apprehended nearby.

Police roped off the parking lot, closing in about two-dozen vehicles. Officers took the names and information of drivers leaving the area.

The incident was the third major outburst of violence this weekend in Toronto’s downtown. Gunfire rang out the night before when four people were shot outside Crystalroom Nightclub around 3:10 a.m. Saturday morning.

One victim was hit twice in the back, while three others sustained more superficial wounds to arms and legs. Each victim remains in stable condition. Police are still looking for suspects in the shooting.

Later Saturday afternoon, a man was stabbed in the head at the Toronto Reference Library, on Yonge St. just North of Bloor St., around 2:30 p.m. An off-duty police officer made an arrest with the help of bystanders in the attack.

Anyone with information about any of the incidents is encouraged to contact Toronto police at 416-808-5200 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).

No, the stabbing incident occurred in a parking lot, and while I have never been to Crystal Room, I don't believe its a 'gangster club'.

It's funny how a lot of people on this site, and in general like to draw a dividing line with an air of superiority between dance clubs and hip-hop ones.

What you fail to grasp is that those big people dressed all in black providing security, and that skinny sketchbag you get your drugs from, are in the very least connected to organized crime, and @ worst have their own guns and knives on them, and get them in quite easily because they are employees of the club.

I've seen guns in every major EDM club over the years, often while in the offices or hanging out with the employees and regulars.

There is a reason some people wear a jacket in a sweaty place, and it ain't fashion.

I'm not defending this happening, and I do believe we should care about what's going on, but it surprises me how surprised some people in the posts are when hearing about these things. We live in the 4th or 5th (can't remember exactly) biggest city in North America. We have millions of people in the city and plenty more tourists coming in every day. No matter how nice of a reputation we have historically, it's just nearly impossible with that amount of people NOT to have the odd person do something ridiculous.

OK maybe but how often do they use them? Seriously? I suspect "real" gangsters only use them as a last resort and are a bit smarter with them as opposed to the wannabes that shoot up the place to prove they are a man. And that to me is what hip hop is all about.
