Sorry for the late review - been out for the last day or so.
It had been a while since I had been to Fluid (probably 6 months). I'm not sure why I hadn't been there in so long since the venue is stylish, the sound is good, drinks reasonable and talent regular.
Jon started the night out well. His first hour eased us into the night with a nice flow of warm-up type of tunes. Opening the night is a bit of a trick - people are arriving, having cocktails and doing the "meet & greet" so the idea is to provide a nice atmosphere for this to happen - which Jon did well. The club started to fill up further and people were really enjoying the early evening track selection.
The second hour of Jon's set was a bit more up-tempo, peaking at the end of his set. The dance floor was really into it and pretty much everybody was dancing. A good crowd of TAs and non-TAs made for an enjoyable atmosphere - everybody was having a lot of fun. A few newer tracks and some favorites combined with great mixing - I enjoyed Jon's entire set. Good work Jon.
Mute & Laki started their set with Mute playing their first tune just past 12 AM. They played this one track that was a re-do of an 80s tune (male vocal) - the name escapes me right now (as do the lyrics! stupid me.) that I absolutely love. I had heard it at the Drink back in October - it caught my attention then and I was pleased to hear it played. Mute & Laki played great bumpin' tunes.
I left around 1 am (I think) since it was getting late and I had a full day on Saturday. Next time I'll be sure to stay later since Mute & Laki were just getting into it and it would have been great to hear Shaw's set.
Overall a good night night out.
