Taking credit of something you haven't create

Even if you get the rights, I don't think it's correct to name yourself as a creator of the song.

For example:
Samuel Barber - Adagio for strings
Then William Orbit came, made an Electronic Interpretation, and he didn't name Samuel.

William Orbit - Adagio For Strings

Then Tiesto made a Remix

Tiesto - Adagio for Strings?

I'm not a Tiesto Basher, and I liek many of his productions, but I don't like when people take more credit of something even if they paid money for that.

and lately

The PQM - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (Markus Schulz Remix)

Why is Led Zeppelin not mentioned?

this is very common in EDM Scene, and I think it's not right.
It should be stated clear if you are the original producer, a remixer, or a reworker.

1: William Orbit - "BARBER'S adagio for strings"
2: It happens in every scene even more so in pop.

but i completely agree with you

Fixed as Camwin already noted. Orbit's single releases of Adagio For Strings and Pavane Pour Une Infante Défunte do feature the references to the original artists in their titles, as both Barber's and Ravel's are present but i guess it's understandable they're missing on Orbit's album because an album full of "his and hers" would be a bit confusing.

And i think Schulz's remix is a "re-remix" of Led Zeppelin - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (PQM Remix) which was made loooong ago and to my knowledge that PQM's original bootleg remix has been mislabeled as Quivver remix on all the whitelabels out there. Maybe Led Zeppelin - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (PQM Remix - Markus Schulz Re-Edit) wasn't cool? Or maybe Schulz didn't think to be worthy enough to be mentioned in the same track with Led Zeppelin?

But all'n'all, i agree. If by some any lame reason or excuse, producers are making new versions/remakes/remixes of some older tracks and would want to put their versions out under their own name as "new tracks", they shouldn't be credited as the original artist without any reference to the original artist in the track title.. About the tracks at hand, William Orbit did it just as every producer should and credited Barber but Tiësto didn't.

It should be done just to avoid all the endless misunderstandings of what is what and by whom.. because not everyone are freaks like some of us *cough* and dig up all the possible info related to the music we're listening to find out the truth.

It's true that
Led Zeppelin - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (PQM Remix - Markus Schulz Re-Edit) Might not sound the best, but then, if it doesn't sound that great just leave it as
Led Zeppelin - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (Markus Schulz Remix).
The PQM is not credited here, but the original creator should be the most Important and take creditr for the name.

Still it's not Fully Correct if you left out The PQM, but Led Zeppelin
has priority to be credited in here.

It's true that not a everyone are freaks like us, and I beleive most People in the wolrd think that Adagio For Strings it's fully made by Tiesto.
That's just not right.

welcome to the world of EDM and house music.

i agree everything should be stated. But it involved legalities and permission from the original artists. Its easier for producers not to do this since they can get away with it buy disguising the sample, sound , melody line etc.

Strongly agreed. It is not hard to simply put "Remix" after a song and to include the orignal producers name.
Too much credit is given to people that don't deserve it, I do believe.

Back in the day before the time of the digital downloads that was the solution for the "problem" indeed, just to check the sleeve of your CDs or vinyls for more info. But now, with all the officially downloadable mp3s/wmas/wavs, the releases often don't have detailed credits to pay attention to..

I think that is insufficient credit anyhow. Who ever goes, "Hmm, I wonder if someone else created this track first? ::checks sleeve:: "
