I don't think it's been discussed on here but I am wondering who saw the movie "The Fountain" yet? It's a great movie IMO, much better than the critics rated it. Surely it's not the type of movie that is just meant to be entertaining, it's much deeper, much more artistic and surrealistic. Love the visual effects, and although some parts some people might think are way out there, or just plain weird, I found inspiring and evocative.

The movie raises many questions about death, rebirth, creation and the quest for immortality. It's definitely not a movie that spoonfeeds you everything, it's alot like Donnie Darko that you go away from it, trying to make sense of what it is about. But I think I liked this movie even better than Donnie Darko. Don't want this thread to be a bunch of "this movie sucks!" type of thing, because I know it's the type of movie that you either love it, or hate it, like Donnie Darko is.

It looks neat, but I don't watch too many movies. I'm eager to read other peoples' thoughts on the film.

Yeah it was. I don't watch too many movies either but this is the type of film I love, the type that is artistic and thoughtful and not just entertaining for entertainment's sake. Some of the people in the theater clearly thought it was too over their head and probably didn't read up on the film before they saw it. Definitely something you have to know what your getting yourself into before you see it..and have to be open minded.

had the opportunity to see it last night with a couple buddies but we were about 15 minutes late and decided to get food instead. I'll have to check it out, although I've heard almost nothing about it, you guys make it sound interesting.

Yeah it is interesting and D-Res I know you like philosophy too so I know it's the type of movie you'd enjoy. There's alot to think about walking away from the movie, but you might want to see it more than once for it to make complete sense, kind of like Donnie Darko. But for some reason I still don't completely get that movie, this one seemed to make a little more sense to me (though it probably made NO sense to the people in the theater).

Just watched a trailer and a few clips. Looked really thought-provoking to say the least. I had no idea it was another Darren Aronofsky film. I'm definitely going to have to take the time to see it sometime this week.

Yeah if you liked Requiem For A Dream or Pi you will like this. I really wish there were more filmakers out there like him. I've been contemplating whether to get into filmaking-directing or at least screenwriting myself, as I really don't think I want to be a psychologist for my whole career. Though I still want a degree in psychology as it might be beneficial to the things I want to do. The movie is similar to this short novel i've been writing, that i'm planning to make into a screenplay in the future when I have time.

I went into college for film but although I love watching this style of movie, I'm not... "creative" enough for it myself. My school has a top 10 film dept that strongly supports independent film making (shameless school promotion). I, however, lost interest and now I'm moving on to something else. I loved video editing in HS and was actually really good at it, but the artsy-symbolic stuff they taught us here bored me to death. Now I'm stuck on a half dozen other things I wanna do with my life.

Nevertheless, this movie looks bomb

Yeah the problem with me is that i'm too creative for psychology, and have too much ideas up here (since I was a young kid) that I really ought to persue something where I can actually use my creativity. Filmaking is always something that has fascinated me, but I don't think I'm adept enough at it, nor experienced to jump right into it. But perhaps I can minor in creative writing, get into some screen writing and apply some of the stuff i've learned in psychology to my movies. Aronofsky's style is so similar to my own. I tried making a 5 minute film for a Mass Media class in high school that was quite different from what everyone else did. It was quite arty. So that's about it as far as experience goes. I could barely hold the camera straight...should have used a tripod if my mom had one.

i heard the movie is visually great and Hugh Jackson is wonderful as always. But I hear the fault lies in repetition of themes/scenes throughout the 3 generations of the film. But i must see it!

Saw it today. You have to be prepared for a movie like this. I would advise not going late at night and I would advise reading commentary on the movie afterwards to fill in holes you didn't understand. The trailer for the movie was done very badly, which makes the audience confused as to the three time settings. It is a beautiful movie and makes you think quite a bit. You will either like it or hate it though, no indifferent or ok responses. It is very artsy and not a typical Hugh Jackman role. If you like action and a great plot I would recommend seeing Jackman's Prestige over this but if you like artsy, sad, and thought-provoking I would suggest this.

I give it a C+ though, so it wasn't the best, but worth it to see the visuals on the big screen.

James Bond owns every movie this year hands down
