Adjusting to CDJs

Short version:
How easy is it to adjust from vinyl to cdj? If I were to rent CDJs for a weekend, would I catch on and be able to use CDJs at gigs from then on? or is it something which requires constant practice?

Full Story:
So I've been playing with vinyl for a while now, and its about time i gave into the digital revolution. I plan to buy M-Audio Torq, but unfornately I have to save up for quite a while in order to buy a laptop and Torq.

In the mean time, I'm at a bit of a loss because I no longer want to update my vinyl collection and waste a lot of cash I could put towards a laptop. So I'm planning to rent CDJs and learn how to use them, so i can start building my collection and also be able to play digital at live gigs. With CDJs do I just need to learn how the features work and I'm ready to go? Or does it require constant practice?

Advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
- M2J

i found the transition from vinyl to denon cdj easy, but from denon cdj to pio cdj800 hard. i rely too heavily on pitch bend buttons for mixing..

can i do it over a weekend?

i dunno, i'm just not used to the platter control with the high-end pio cdj's. though they do feel sexy. if you already know how to beatmatch, it shouldn't take you more than a couple hours to get it down. i personally find it much, much, much easier to mix with cdj than vinyl for reasons i don't feel like elaborating at the moment. /lazy

learn pitch bend buttons and the jog wheel, you never know what you're going to encounter

you need to learn to be versatile

which applies to everything

i've played on some shoddy setups

Took me like two hours to get the hang of it. I heard people who started with vinyl take a bit longer because they're already used to another system. Still, it's very instinctive. You'll pick it up easy.

its easy i dont even own any cd decks i used my mates 6 or 7 times before working out what to do. I think getting used to the jog wheel and knowing how sensitive it is is the hardest part but even thats easy.

+1
And you can choose to use the vinyl mode if you don't like cdj mode (which I find easier)
