Question First Mixes (two) - Trance

Hi!

Well, these are my first mixes, if you have some time I'd really appreciate if you'd listen to one (or even both) of them and tell me what you think, but be honest please! Help a n00b to become better!

I think my biggest problems are:

Track selection, though I think that the tracks are not too bad, but sometimes they just don't match well together In the second mix I've tried to use tracks from different subgenres of Trance, so it was even harder to make it sound good. Oh, and I like older tracks, as you'll see when you take a look at the tracklists

Equalizing, the transitions between the tracks sometimes sound pretty bad, especially low frequencies. But I have to say, that the mixer I'm using has only a two-band-equalizer, therefore it's kinda hard to create good transitions.

Any replies are welcome, thank you so much for your support!!!

Sorry for not naming my mixes according to the naming conventions, but neither do I have an artist name, nor a name for my mixes... Sorry! And the description "HeastOidaMix" did a friend of mine, I can't upload files, it takes too long and costs too much... and he thought he's being funny. HeastOida means nothing, it's just an insider joke, it's not even english, so don't think about it

Mix 1:
9/10
Your execution is great with this mix Hunter. I was very impressed with your transitions. They’re really creative and made the overall set flow to perfection. All in all, I have no complaints about your mixing. The only reason I didn’t give you a perfect ten is because I look for two things: exceptional deejaying ability and great music. Your deejaying is excellent and damn good, but the music didn’t blow me away much. I loved five out of the nine tracks. That’s slightly more than half the mix. If you set personal taste aside I think you have yourself an ace set here Hunter. Keep up the great work on this one!
Mix 2:
6/10
This mix is a disappointment. It has none of the qualities that I enjoyed from you in the first mix. The first three tracks started out strong and then dropped significantly in energy with the Outhouse track. It wasn’t until the Breathe track that things started to pick up again, but it was a little spark too late. By the way your transition between the second and third track was slightly rough, but other than that it was your simple fader mixing and no effort put into the feel of the set. My suggestion is to recreate the magic that you did with Mix 1. In other words don’t do a mix if you’re lazy. Thanks for sharing.

Wow... I really didn't expect such a good feedback, I'm pretty surprised. Thanks a lot!!!

I also like the first mix more, but I also wanted to show that I listen to (almost) all kinds of Trance, therefore there are several different kinds of Trance in the second mix... didn't work out too good apparently But that's okay. Six out of 10 is not that bad, and more than I expected.

I will keep your advice in mind when I do my next mix!

So thanks again for your feedback, I hope that some others listen to the mixes as well...

Diggin' the first mix. I just posted my first (good) mix here too, so I'm listening to other people's who use similar tracks as me in their mixes. Gotta love Airbase, Jonas Steur, and Dj Shah though. Love the first transition, but I'm not into the vocal trance so much in the second transition. You really chose a sweet Airbase track to follow it though, and that mix worked out well. I admit I like the original mix of Arisen more than the Parc remix, but using it with Escape worked superbly.

I love Tales from the South, and I think that track can be a bitch to mix into, but you pulled it off nice. I was hoping you'd try and mix out Tales early (I think it's one of those tracks that really doesn't need the encore of the second breakdown), but that can be tough to do. Good use of artist-to-artist mixing again with Jonas Steur, but don't a lot of djs consider it as kind of cheating? Overall I'm totally into the mix, but I would try using a few different artists in a one hour set (even if it won't sound as crisp).

Sorry, I guess some people will consider this as bumping, but I want to thank the_transient for his reply!

Thank you, thanks a lot! Yeah, mixing two tracks from the same artist usually works out pretty well

But you are right, I'll try to avoid that in the future if it's just a one hour set.

EDIT: Of course I'll download your mix asap, if it's still available and give you feedback on it!
