That's gotta suck:

Essentially the kid was being an ass for not having his school ID on him which was school mandate for anyone being in the library after 11:00 PM. Obviously he was gettin' after some attention.

With all that said, the kid was handcuffed and tased multiple times WHILE BEING HANDCUFFED! Furthermore, unless I missed something I don't think you were allowed to tase a handcuffed person who refuses to get up off the floor, can you?

And lastly, towards the end of the tape, notice the cop tell the kid in the white t-shirt to back off "or you're gonna get tased too." Last I checked I believe such a threat is an illegal assault on a bystander who was asking for his badge number. In fact, a number of kids were asking for these cops' badge numbers. One can only hope they got them.

More on the story here:

http://www.latimes.com/news/printed...ack=1&cset=true

I personally don't mind cops having tasers, PROVIDED they are used with absolute discretion of firing as a last resort to a non-life threatening situation. Okay, I made that last line up on my own, but my point is I think they are a useful tool provided they are used and not abused. In this instance it seems pretty clear to me that abuse of the weapons is pretty evident. Do I want tasers out? Absolutely not, but I do think better training is mandated. Taser use is still in its infancy, so hopefully law enforcement can learn from these incidents.

A lot's been covered in this thread in the COR - http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=382427

Suprisingly, it's not as mindless as most topics in there.

COR? What the hell is that?

You know I don't venture out of the confines of these PDD walls. The nerve!

Sorry, but like I said, there's some good debate and comments in there. Plus it's the only place Tiesto14 can talk about politics since his self-ban from this forum. You could even post in there if you'd like to argue with him for old time's sake.

Well with the exception of incorrectly stating the UCLA police are not part of the LA force (they are actually a branch), for the most part I tend to agree with him here.

The kid was resisting arrest to a high level and not being compliant with the cops so I'd say he had it coming. The punishment did not justify using the taser as much as they did or use it on the other handcuffed kid who didn't even do nothing, but you don't follow the rules and that's what you get.

The kid could have showed him his id or say he didn't have one and walk out with dignity instead of causing a huge scene like he did.

I disagree with this kid flipping out when touched, which contributed to the escalation, but in response to the part I bolded above, he was leaving already. The cops could have left well enough alone and not touched him, since he wasn't under arrest at that time. Instead, when they did and he said "don't touch me" they tasered him is what I'm gathering from the story.

quote:
Neither the video footage nor eyewitness accounts of the events confirmed that Tabatabainejad encouraged resistance, and he repeatedly told the officers he was not fighting and would leave.

Tabatabainejad was walking with his backpack toward the door when he was approached by two UCPD officers, one of whom grabbed the student's arm. In response, Tabatabainejad yelled at the officers to "get off me." Following this demand, Tabatabainejad was stunned with a Taser.

I think its important not to jump to conclusions before any investigations are done. Its easy to do that with video like this. We can hear the student's cries but we can't actually see what the officers are doing. As far as I can tell, the officers weren't really doing much of anything, at least towards the end. They might have tazered him, but its any body's guess (at this point) if that was valid or not.

The gist I'm getting is the student wasn't supposed to be in the library without an ID, tried to leave, told the officer off, and got tazered. First of all, I'd be skeptical if that was enough for even the dumbest of officers to pull out the tazer and use it. There was more than one officer there in the beginning, what were they there for? I doubt officers are known to patrol the library in large groups tazering people.

I'd wait for more information and some sort of official investigation. There were obviously plenty of witnesses to this. At the end you can actually see all the kids whipping out their cell phones and taking pictures so I wouldn't be surprised if more videos surface and this becomes a big issue on the news.

Don't make me revive one of your many old COR threads. Props on the thread subject though.

Its a sad day, I live in Toronto and all the cops here are corrupt. Now these guys are have sunk to their level. When someone is tazered, its very hard to stand up. it could be even minutes before the person has mobility. these cops were just being fucking pricks.

I think it's great that technology doesn't only make big brother watch you, but also improves your chances of watching him

Clearly wouldn't have been a big thing if it wasn't for it being recorded on video...

See I didn't understand that. I didn't get a very good glimpse of the student or the cops but from what I did see the cops were pretty buff and the student wasn't that big. Why go to all the trouble of yelling for him to stand up over and over? I know I saw two cops holding each of his arms, clearly they could have just lifted him up and took him out.
