not original I know!..but laptop recommends?

Please don't flame me!!!

Sorry I have used search.... honest, but I figure specs & speeds change pretty quickly these days. Must be PC BTW.

Basically got about GBP500 - GBP600

which is approx..
US $1000
Euro -750
Aussie $1250

Basically run Fruity and the pretty mainstream VSTi's (to make pretty rubbish stuff TBH!).

Cheers Guys in advance.

Oh BTW, do any Laptops come with a half decent soundcard? or is that just a no no??

this isn't gonna help too much but you should put that money towards either a new desktop or just update your existing one. i assume you plan on producing away from your house, but laptops are not made for music production, at least not PCs, so i think you'd be wasting your money.

it's up to you but that money can be put towards something a lot better IMHO.

Yeah, i've gotta agree here. Unless you're travelling alot and producing on the run, a desktop would be alot better for producing.

750 euros for a work/production laptop isn't much.

Of course you'll get chepish PC-laptops from sale now and then, but those aren't too powerful.

If you are going to rely on your laptop with your productions, you should look after business models, and the prices start from around 1200 euros.

Integrated sound in Macs is no better than PCs.

At that price range, I wouldn't get anything other than a Toshiba. If you buy a crappy Dell/Acer/SuperFunYumcha laptop and then come on here in one week crying of "ground noise" I think you'll find your 500 quid was wasted :P

Integrated soundcards are always shite. So you need to make sure whatever you buy has firewire, because most good external soundcards use firewire. USB is terrible. Don't ever buy a USB soundcard.

The cheapest "OK" external soundcard you will find is a Firewire Audiophile.

My laptop is a 1.73 Dothan Centrino w/1gb ram and a 5400rpm HDD. I'm not sure how much they go for, but it suits me fine - so anything around that is going to be enough. It's not the fastest in the world, but anyone who needs so much more processing power is doing something wrong - I can load up 5 or so copies of z3ta and have waves plugins on every channel without hitting 100%.

Might be true, but core audio beats ASIO anytime.

But let's now turn this into Mac vs PC fight, the thread started already stated he needs a PC.

A MacBook works perfectly fine as a PC too. I would definitely stretch those extra 150 pounds and get a MacBook. With bootcamp you can run Windows just as you would on a regular PC. I've been doing this on my MacPro for a few months now and it's all rock solid. In addition you can access OSX if you need it. Might not seem likely now, but there's quite a few people in the music world that uses Macs, so you never know.
