So here's my review.
We arrived just as the doors opened, pretty much making us the first ones on the scene. Props to DJ Eco for the amazing opening set that was being started as we got there. One of my friends complained about the smallness of the venue at first, and I must admit that there's something to be said for something like Crobar's main room. Regardless of how much my friend criticized the size of the venue, no criticism could honestly be aimed at anything apart from the small size. Shelter is, simply put, a really fun club. I thouroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, the crowd, and the music during the night.
DJ Eco opened his set with some new remix of 'Discopolis', with which I was not familiar. He then proceeded to drop a long list of fantastic tracks that made for an awesome set. His mixing was so perfect and creative, that I'd wager to say that this was the best set I've ever heard out of Eco. He was on until a little after one, when Martin Roth took over.
When Martin Roth hit the decks he immediately started with some hard trance that had clear psytrance influences in it. He then began what I personally saw as one of the best sets I've heard so far this year. It may have been short, but it was so intense and well done that I can assure you that Martin Roth's going onto my top list of DJs. Honestly, when Martin dropped 'Lift', I just went crazy. Well, so the set ended rather abruptly and another DJ went on. No, I didn't think he was very good --- I was pleased that he played 'Rej', but otherwise his set wasn't very interesting.
In response to being displeased about the main floor situation, we went downstairs to hear Chris Luzz. Just as we got down there, all the DJs were cranking out some sick house beats, until the Blake Jarrell remix of 'Comfortably Numb' came on. I had never heard the track before, so I was so amazingly and pleasantly suprised to find that such a wonderful track existed. One of my friends quickly says, "We've got to leave after this song... that would be such a high note to end on". Sure enough, we headed out right after that track, and made our confused ways home.
EDIT: P.S., guys, you forgot 'Delerium - Silence (Trentemoller 2006 Remix)' --- it was definately played at the party --- I loooove this mix.
