Just thought it would be fun to talk about some of the little things that you do in life now because of dj'ing.

Sometimes I find myself listening to other types of music, whether it be rock, classical, hip hop and thinking "Hmmm, those hi hats really don't sound synchronized with the beat." It's funny at times but other times it gets annoying because all I really want to do is enjoy the song!

One of the bigger things that get to me is critiquing other dj sets. I can be listening to one live, online, cd and I can pick up on the ever so slightly pitch adjustment from altering the jog dial or pushing on the record.

well when i'm walking through campus, or the mall, or whatever, i hear "deejay flurr!!" and see people waving and stuff and thats cool. i also get a lot more pusssy

DJing makes me more critical of my own mixing and the mixes that I listen to on a regular basis. It also eats up a lot of free time that my wife would probably prefer I spend doing something more "productive".

It has also pretty much eliminated any interest I had in other genres of music, and that may be a bad thing. As I stated in the Vangelis thread in the Music Discussion forum, I grew up around all kinds of classic rock on vinyl - Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, The Outlaws, Black Sabbath, The Doors, etc. But from the first time I listened to trance I was addicted. I don't recall the last time I gave my Zeppelin boxed set CDs a proper listen, for example.

Christ I'm old and boring.

basically everything everyone has mentioned already applies for me as well, but I definately notice that since i started spinning i have become a LOT more intimate with EDM on so many different levels...i eat, breathe and sleep it some days but i guess thats what happens when you start to play out

It makes you appreciate music more.
Its makes it difficult to listen to other DJ's because you are always paying close attention to their mixes.
It makes you really poor at times.
Wastes a lot of time.

djing hasn't effected my life, it's become my life

i love what i play, even what i don't play

i don't pay attention to other djs mixes, i find that's more a thing bedroom djs do, i've never found a working dj that honestly cared if someone fucked up, whatever, shit happens and people fuck up, that's life, you move on and make sure your next mix is spot on, crowds forget very quickly like goldfish

i now can't go out anywhere (literally) without running into someone i know or someone that knows me... it's kinda sickening sometimes but you have to appease the fans no matter how annoying

it's a game now to try and find a spot that no-one i know goes to and have a good time without distraction or bothering

lol I know exactly what that's like. I can't go anywhere here in Melbourne that plays harder styles of music now without undergoing a barrage of handshakes and other greetings from people I know as well as randoms. Networking pays off though, that's for sure.

As like others its been character building for me.
Iv become more ok with sh*t that might happen at gigs (not that I always agree with it but I can handle tougher situations).
I grown to appreciate good music, especially in genres other then EDM ones.
Iv learnt alot about the value of money.
There is ofcourse that funny recognition you get with whatever your nickname is.
Iv become very worried about the future health of my ears.

I disagree with this wholeheatedly. I listen to loads of mixes from loads of different genres simply because of how much I love the music - On top of which I find it a great way to expose myself to musical styles that I normally wouldn't.

Beyond that, at least in Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, and Wisco, there are LOADS of trainspotters, the majority of which are what you would call "working" DJ's.

I can't believe how much time and attention this takes up, haha. It's seriously becoming a distraction from school...anyone ever find themselves drawing turntables/mixers/etc while they're not paying attention in class (or at work or something)?

I also can't remember the last time I listened to non-electronic music. I think I'm addicted.

I'm with TM on the fact that you pay less attention to other DJs mixes the more you work with DJs on a regular basis and kind of more focus on the social, and usually if someone does something bad it's usually just a source of friendly fun nothing more.

If you guys think that DJing will change your life, start producing and it will totally wreck your ability to listen to music for what it is.

Bedroom DJs in the club scenario can be a pain in the ass as they like to pick on residents as in their eyes it's the next step up from the bedroom but it so is not.

I have had such a long time to get used to the idea of being a DJ that it isn't really at the forefront of my personality, or at least I don't think it is...

It is nice knowing a lot of people at times. Being in the situation where I didn't play a lot in my home town I don't really suffer that much in terms of trying to get away from people who know me.

Being a DJ does bring certain groups closer to you though, i.e. the pretentious clubber crowd who just have to know you. I'm never outwardly rude to them but don't often feel I have a lot to say to them as most are so muntered that they talk a load of cod shite anyway.
But it's part of your job to be nice and mingle with the punters so that's what I do.
