Time delay whilst mixing in clubs

Does anyone have any tips on dealing with sound delay when mixing in a club?

How loud should you have the monitors in comparison to the headphone volume?

Thanks

Well you should only have them set as loud as you need them to mix, so don't turn it all up loud if you can mix fine with them at a lower setting, you can hear things clearer and it will prolong the life of your ears, plus depending on how long your set is, ear fatigue can kick in pretty fast if its really loud, and then that can start to fuck with your ability to mix.

Personally though, I have them fuckin LOUD.

Depending on where the monitors are in relation the club PA you might not want them too loud. I played a gig with horrible time delay and because the booth was relatively close to the floor, you could hear the monitor AND the PA. I just turned the monitors low and mixed in the headphones only.

It can be a bit of a challenge, but as long as the monitors are good just have them loud enough so that you can hear to mix.

There are plenty of challenging aspects mixing in a club, you will also feel the bass from the main PA on your body which can confuse you a bit so just get accustomed to mixing using what you hear from the monitors and the phones.

Cheers
Nem
