I dont know if this has been brought up before, i would imagine it has been discussed at one point anyway...But i'll bring it to light again...
It seems most people confuse the dj with the producer because most producers are dj's and a lot of dj's are producers. hrmmm. after reading this sentance i realize how easy it is to confuse the two of them. maybe i'm just making things worse for some of you more feeble minded people out there.
alright... lets get it settled then.
as you should know, producers make the music with computers and electronic equipment in a studio and release this music digitally and on records. dj's play those songs made by producers and mix it together with other songs in real time.
this should be nothing new to most of you...
but what bugs me is when you see these big name producers who are charted on dj lists not because of their skill as a dj, but because of the tracks they produce...Its not a top dj list anymore, its a popularity contest now - which is probably due to the lack of education about what goes on behind the decks and in a studio.
i think tranceaddict needs to recognize the difference between dj and producer and make two seperate charts. one for dj, the other for producer.
or am i just taking crazy pills here?

Anyone who has issues making the distinction between a DJ and a producer is mentally handicapped and should be disallowed from participating in such a voting process.

I've had people come up to me at gigs when I'm playing records ask me if I'm making the music with the turntables. Even for someone having little knowledge of the subject, it should be a simple matter of observation...

My friends tell people I'm a DJ because I produce.
Shit happens.

people should stop focusing on dj'ing and start producing better tracks so the tracklist will be improved. There's no point with dj skills and a poor tracklist.

The fact is that the general public are fucking idiots when it comes to anything remotely specialist, and unfortunately enough it's the general public who usually comprise majority votes in polls.
At one of my local clubs the onlookers would shout at the DJ: "Make that sound again! Make that sound again!"
People are fucking idiots.

It all comes down to the average person isn't very intelligent. As evidenced by reading through TA.
