i was hoping if anyone listened to it to just critique the flow of the tracks so i could better improve myself. im hoping to have a decent track selection and trackflow ability by the time i get my cdjs to try and make up for the first few months of trainwrecking

Well, I've given this one a couple listens now, and have to say that even if your mixing was utter garbage, this would have still been worth the listen solely for the tunes I'd have probably not heard without it

Thankfully, your mixing proves pretty solid in here too

"Time is now" was a great choice as an opener, really roped me in hard right from the get go - And has fast become a favorite of mine that I'm really looking forward to dropping out live sometime soon!

The mix out of it was harmonically terrific, phrased well, and the only correction I would have maybe made was keeping "Time is Now" EQ'd in a littler higher.

The second tune is a bouncy little number that helps the set flow along nicely without being abrasive, love the glitchy vocals. Definitely a solid choice for second tune. Definitely helps bring the energy up a bit too which is terrific

The same can be said about "Illusions," really just a nice number that was well progammed and mixed really nicely. Phrasing was spot on in this one. Took the set back down a touch, really nice though. I liked the way it flowed back down into something a little more chill. "Vesuvious" maintained the dark vibe you had started, but picked the pace back up - All in all through these four I was very happy with how you programmed your introduction.

The first real problem I ran into was with the Dinsdale tune. It's a good tune, but the mix in was a bit spotty, and I really felt like it disrupted the flow of the set you had going to this point. Luckily, the tune was good enough to keep me interested, so even though I don't think it was the right programming decision, others may not see it the same way. I dunno man, just the way that bassline comes pounding in after that glitched out break - Just didn't sit well with me.

"Chains" brought the set back to the kind of dark vibe you'd laid down before, so I was pretty happy to hear you revert to that sound. Really excellent mix in, and I'm a huge Boratto fan, so you know I was loving this

The way "First Stroke" was mixed in saved it from being another bad programming choice - It could have been rough, but honestly (and this is the sign of a GOOD DJ), the way you mixed, made it work terrificly. This was probably one of the moments during this set where I was most impressed. Well done.

The Dahlback tune is easily my favorite tune of the moment - And it's all thanks to you m8! Loved the mix in, loved hearing the vocals layered the way they were, thought this was an excellent direction to take the mix in. When that bassline dropped and I was in the car yesterday on the way home, I was dancing so hard in my seat it was sick

Now comes one of the other parts of the mix I wasn't too happy with, the mix into "Sparks." First of all, let me tell you that I think this tune is an absolute cunt to mix - it drives me nuts. But I think the phrasing on this one was just way off (by either 4 or 8 beats), and having the basslines competing with each other was just really not pleasing to my ears. No worries though, bassline switching comes with time, and there are many of us who still struggle with it. Programming wise, I think "Sparks" was probably a good choice.

The Amesz Remix brought the pace back up, which was nice, and the mix into it sounded very nice as well. I'm not so sure it was the best choice programming wise, but again, you made it work, and it was another one I was dancin' in my seat for.

As far as the last three tunes go, the mix into/programming of "Cat out of the Bag" was great, it definitely bridged the gap into the "end" of your set, but I would have finished with "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You." Even though I absolutely love the Flipform tune, it feels a little odd as an ender. The mixing was pretty tight, but I just think I would have been happier to hear the set end with that, regardless of how cliche' it is.

All in all, you really did a pretty good job here. I guess my main criticisms would be to work a bit harder on your programming and try not to have too many mixes that abruptly change the pace of the set. Beyond that, your taste in music is fucking spot on, absolutely perfect! I really, really enjoyed the new tunes you turned me onto in here, something far more valuable than the greatest mixing/programming possible - So massive thanks to you SPC.

I really look forward to hearing future stuff from you and seeing how you hone your craft further

Favorite Parts of the Mix: "Time is Now" through "Vesuvious," "Don't Speak," and getting to hear "Beat Junkie"

Very big thanks for putting in an honest and concise view on my mix... this is probably the one place I look most forward to in regards to feedback. Unfortunately, my friends that ARE into EDM are mostly into different areas.. mainly the cheesier and more commercial stuff. For example, my one friend who downloaded the mix, thought it was complete garbage because he said the majority of songs were boring and didn't go anywhere (also coming from the guy who started out a mix with Supermode - Why) It feels like almost noone in the northern nj area likes the music that I am into.

Anyway, in response to some of your comments..

I was a little surprised you were disappointed on the mixing into the Dinsale song... I thought it was a pretty good transition, but I totally understand what you mean about the song being out of place. I did want to pick up the energy in this point but maybe this brought in a little too much energy. And now that I relisten to it, the bassline may be a bit too much.

The transition into First Stroke was a bit sloppy and I tried to fix it up. As of right now I'm using Mixmeister, and I feel that EQing can be a bit tough and limited at times with the program. I tried dabbling with Ableton Live but I felt that my computer wasn't powerful enough and that without some sort of controller, it can get pretty frustrating to use. But, It is nice to hear from you that I turned a potential disaster into a decent transition.

Yeah, the mix into Sparks was pretty piss poor, BUT they are solid tunes as you said Sparks is a bit tedious song to mix into, but I will definitely try and resolve that issue next time around.

I'm very glad you enjoyed the mix, and I will take your advice into consideration during my next mix. I'm also appreciative that you enjoy my taste in music since noone else in Jersey appreciates it lol... it has probably been a little over a year now that I've been starting to broaden my horizons into EDM and checking out genres and artists I'm unfamiliar with. And honestly, some of the TAs including yourself have definitely influenced me to branch out. I forget which mix it was, but it started out with the Paradise Soul remix of Sia's Numb... that was the first mix of yours I have listened to, and I've always tried to grab your mixes after that. Other favorite TA mixes I always try to check out also include mixes from Clovis, Allied Nations, and UWM. All of you guys bring some great music and mixing to the table. Although I may not leave detailed comments and critiques like you RJT (mainly because I'm nowhere near as talented as any of you guys), I'm always checking those mixes out when I have the time to... so you guys keep up the great work as well Thanks again for the review

hopefully by the end of february i'll have 2 pioneer cdj-200s & a djm-400 mixer... that isssss the plan

Not a bad mix, I really enjoyed it but I agree with Rob about the mix into Sparks. It just kinda threw the mix off for me but Sparks is such a kickass tune that you forget all about it. The beginning and the middle were quite good too.

Quick question, where did you get chains on mp3?
