Some boxing day house-hype!
Hello TA & House-Heads alike!
For all of us who are staying 'in' this holiday weekend, I thought I'd throw you some holiday house hype (how's that for alliteration?)
Actually, it isn't me, but DJ Addy, check it out.
I had a chance to tag up with Addy @ Erick Morillo at the beginning of the month for a moment...at first, I didn't know if it was him or not, then i got over myself and said "DJ ADDY??" (only, i whispered it, cause they music was quiet, i didn't want to shock anyone by yelling). And sure enough, it WAS Addy! So I shook his hand and formally introduced myself (I'd only met him over the decks before) and asked him what the heck was goin' on lately, and where he had gone. "You're that guy who writes those long-ass reviews on HouseAddict and TranceAddict, right?" I was like, uh...yeah, that's me. So he told me that he had taken some time off (blah blah, insert favourite rumour here) to do some production work, and promised to jet me some mp3 samples. I said I'd LOVE to hear what he had been working on during his sabbatical. I parted with asking when he'd be back on the decks, since i had ONLY just started focusing on his sets since Guv 10--I believe he said we'd see him back in January, but don't quote me; the bass was SO loud, i could barely hear him. Honest. haha.
Anyways, i didn't think anything more about the encounter, until i got a hold of said mp3 samples (thx Johnny Action). I'm not sure if they're public yet, but it sounded pretty good! It was a slower beat (not quite chill out, but down tempo--not a hard-banger) with a sexy vocal mixed in. The vocals can also be heard on Nathan's Verao 2005 promo CD, track 3 (Universal Truth "Web (MV's Tribal Fusion Dub)" - Rawthentic Music). I think this is the same sample Chinamon was talking about earlier this month. I'm really appreciating the sexy vocals and sounds more and more (re: slow vs. fast thread that I believe JennyPie started up on HouseAddict)Click here to check out that thread. Especially hearing Nathan Barato bang out some sexy tunes at the zone in November, and still keeping it hammering away for the sketch-a-holics who need it hard. Love it. Addy's track would fit in there. All you guys out there producing: I'd love to sit with you an hour and find out what software, tools and tricks of the trade you use! Maybe Nathan, Carlo or Addy will let me sit in their studio for a bit, if I promise not to touch anything. (congrats on 'Everybody' too, Carlo!) I'm pretty sure I saw Val noting that he loved Ableton Live--if memory serves correctly, that's a high-end music-prod software package, right?
Anyways, here's something I can share... found this promo vid floating around that I have to admit, really gets me pumping. What a great vid production job, and really captures fun elements of what a layman like me would think mixing is about.

Between Nathan Barato, Vinyl Junkies, Carlo Lio, DJ Addy, and Deko-Ze (and others!)...I'm increasingly amazed at the professional, well marketed and well represented local talent. Given that I'm involved with marketing and promotions in a different industry, seeing/hearing some of these productions are just blowing my mind. (see thread: Vinyl Junkie's Promo CD: Sleeze Review See review here
All I can say is 2007 is gonna be a great year. I'm looking forward to getting to know the music, the DJs and the productions even more intimately, now that year 1 is under my belt in my house music education. w00t w00t!
