Review: The Da Vinci Code

ok ladies and gents...just got back from watching the movie.

without giving too much away for people that havent read the book...here goes:

- it followed to book pretty well (with a minor variation at the end)
- seemed to linger on for a while at one point. a tad too long but i was expecting it.
- corny humour sometimes.
- camera work was pretty cool. the fading of the present/past was impressive. (you'll know what im talking about when you see it)
- no crazy twists that they throw into the movie that wasnt in the book. definately appreciated that.

over all....great book...allright movie. recommend seeing it but not if you're planning on going to a night show this weekend. not worth the headache of dealing with a sold out crowd.

I haven't seen it... but the review's at www.chud.com are usually accurate.

here's a bit of the review from that site:

The Da Vinci Code is a terrible movie. It’s a movie that’s too stupid to appreciate it’s own stupid origins, and so it takes itself completely seriously. The stupider things get, the more seriously the movie takes itself, and the more seriously it takes itself, the funnier it is.

Here's the rest:

Yea, I heard the movie wasn't that great. At the premiere in Cannes, NOBODY clapped at the end.

I just got back from the movie. I thought it was pretty good but nothing compared to the book. It was definitely well directed but did not capture many aspects of the 'story behind the story' aspects of many things which the book covered (can't say as it would be a spoiler).

But one thing I can say is that the aura and power with the Dan Brown presents Silas in the book is much better than what they potrayed him in the movie. He's a peasant in it. The past/present fading was amazing though - definitely created visuals in my head after some of those.

As of now, I am going to do some research on all those cults n stuff...they're so awesome, wonder what Dan Brown's been smoking to come up concepts like these...

Definitely worth a watch though, I dunno what the hell critics are talking about. They are probably too dumb to understand it...

I just got back from it as well..
After such a successful book, there's always high expectations for the film so it's not surprising that many were left disappointed.
Sure it could've been better but it was still entertaining and it was nice to visualize certain scenes. A lot of details do get overlooked in the movie but that's to be expected.. it would have to be a very looong movie to cover everything.
My favourite part was the way the ending was portrayed...
ok, now time to stop rambling before i give the ending away

gnight

The past blending with the present scenes were awesome, and the grayscale cinematography for the history scenes was pretty cool as well.

Overall I really enjoyed the movie. It definitely captured the 'essence' of the novel. Some people may have been disappointed in the lack of information given throughout but it was just over 2 and a half hours so I think some constraints had to be made in the script just to keep it in a 'watchable' timeframe. Part of me wishes I hadn't read the novel first so I could have that 'oh.my.god.' moment at the same time in the film as I did when reading the book.

Anyone else pissed they cut out that one kiss between Langdon and Neveu at the end? lol..
