Hope you have fun here in Sin City. The place is uber-busy right now. Between CES and the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo (Vegas' two largest regular conventions), traffic is horrible especially around the Sands/Convention Center Corridor (where I happen to live).
As for nightlife, you'll find that that vegas is a HUGE club town. For trance music I suggest the Empire Ballroom. They usually cater to the "regular" crowd up until about 1am and then they kick off afterhours with the trance and house music. On Thursdays, they have what's called Local Love where locals get to throw down with trance superstars like Matt Darey, Steve Lawler, and Sander Kleinberg.
For a more underground feel, you can head to downtown where there are several small places that cater to different crowds from punk to hip-hop. A local crew who's making things happen here in Las Vegas is Deton8or. They have a weekly at the Icehouse Lounge called Reson8 that's usually a good time. They focus mostly on breaks and DnB, but usually feature one other dj of a different style. Had you have come next weekend, you would be able to catch Frankie Bones throw down there. This week, though John B is the headliner with DJ Morningstar (Electro/Tech/House) as the local hitter. If you dig house music, though Morningstar is pretty good.
Anyway, if you go to www.eternalbeats.net you'll find a pretty extensive Vegas Calender of things to do.
Have fun here in Sin City!!!
