Hello! This will be my first year going to conference and there are some questions I have for previous attendees --
1) Is it worthwhile to rent a car or do most people just take taxis all week?
2) How long is a good amount of time to stay? Because of frequent flyer miles it would work best for me to fly in on Monday the 19th (a day before it starts) and leave tuesday the 27th (two days after umf ends) Is that too long of a stay?
3a) Should I register for the Conference? I know it comes with a UMF ticket, but are the pannels worth it or do people just go to the WMC for the club scene and buy their UMF ticket seperately?
3b) If I should register for the Conference, which pannels/courses etc would you all suggest?
4) How much money do you think is needed for food/club expenses.
I think that's it...I might have more questions later. Thanks for the responses!
never been but i heard from lots of people that went last year to not bother with a car, walk everywhere, and dont use your credit card at the clubs.

1) Get a hotel on the 1400 block of Collins or the 800 (I think) block of Washington. As long as it's within that area you'll be close enough to walk everywhere, or cab it...don't rent a car. It will be a HUGE pain in the ass to find parking. I've gone to WMC three times and all times I cabbed around.
2) No such thing as too long. You might get a little burnt out by the end of the week. If I were you I would try to get in Wednesday (day after it starts) and leave Tuesday. That would be sweet.
3a) Never registered for the conference. From my understanding it's not worth it. Don't even bother with Ultra, unless you really really like massive type events, Ultra will be shitty. You won't get to see everyone you want, and you'll have a lot more fun pool party/day party all day and clubbing at night. You'll see the people you want to see at night as well.
4) I would say $1200 for a week. As long as you get all your tickets presale (which I HIGHLY suggest) you'll be golden. First year I went I didn't get any presales and it cost me an arm and a leg to go clubbing. The next two years I bought all my tickets presale (about a month or 2 in advance...saved me a good $300...easy).
WMC is gonna be so much fun, you'll love it. I'm skipping out this year to go to Ibiza again and NYC for the first time
ENJOY

Hey Randy, I learned a lot over here in the WMC subforum too:
1) Is it worthwhile to rent a car or do most people just take taxis all week?
i concur with everyone - no car is necessary.
2) How long is a good amount of time to stay? Because of frequent flyer miles it would work best for me to fly in on Monday the 19th (a day before it starts) and leave tuesday the 27th (two days after umf ends) Is that too long of a stay?
it matters how hard you party. once the conference gets going strong (prob Wed this year) you can't go out from 2pm - 8am 5 nites in a row before it wears on you. the 5th night has always been a bitch for me to keep it going.
3a) Should I register for the Conference? I know it comes with a UMF ticket, but are the pannels worth it or do people just go to the WMC for the club scene and buy their UMF ticket seperately?
it matters how much you want to learn new thing, especially production stuff, etc. though Remix hotel is good for that too.
3b) If I should register for the Conference, which pannels/courses etc would you all suggest?
no ideas.
4) How much money do you think is needed for food/club expenses.
again, depends on how much you drink and if you are cool with going to small parties that are free or potentially paying $80-100 for a big nite at Crobar or Space. use the fact you play for Giant to get on as many guest lists as you can. last year if you didn't have presales, they were charging $80 at Crobar and $120 for Space on the weekend...though presales were around $40-50 for the same parties. the Space pass can be a good deal if you plan to go to enough of their events.
