well I thing that sometimes it can help, but in the other side it is destroying everything U don't need to beatmach because U know the bpm

what are U thinking about that idea guys ? well I thing that this i cheating and not DJ'ing... and U are cheeting Yourself

I think whatever method works for you. Your job as the dj is to keep the dancefloor moving, how you get it done is all on you.

It's totaly not cheating. In fact it's a very professional approach, and may well assist with other disciplines, such as harmonic mixing.... more on that in another thread.

This whole thing about BPM counters and the like, everyone who mixes knows that knowing the BPM of a track is an aid for quicker beatmatching, not a substitute.

If you used it as a substitute your mixes would sound terrible.

Learning to fine beatmatch is what sorts the men from the boys. I use my BPM counters to get in the region, then spend a good 2 minutes fine tuning. 9 times out of 10 during a transition I don't need to touch the pitch control cos my skill in matching a beat is very good.

So no - it's not cheating in the slightest. Do away with this myth!

I would say it is not "cheating" either. I've found (mixing on my Numarks) that even if you have two records that are exactly the same BPM, you will still spend time fine tuning your beatmatching. Like everyone says, it will get you in the neighborhood, but it won't always be 100% perfect. In fact, it can save you time and help you fine tune things so that your mixing is even tighter.

BPM stickers or counters (accuracy to be determined) are useful for getting in the right range. I've practiced mixing with known exact BPM'd tracks and a calculator just to see how accurate my beatmatching is.

You'll still have to beatmatch- it just makes things easier and faster.

yeah Jarvmeister got it right: Bpm stickers on 12" records are a great aid when youre trying to mix harmonically.


But I dont think its that important to "perfect" the pitch during beatmatching. Its much more convenient to "ride the pitch" for at least two reasons:

a) the result is more accurate (9 times out of 10 the TT's are 'a littttttle' drifty and its really hard to do 2+ minute transitions without touching the pitch)
b) less time beatmatching = more time to eq & fade right (+effects).. Of course then youll have to multitask between riding the pitch and eq'ing

What I think is that you don't know much about DJing. You still have to beatmatch even if the records are the same BPM.

I never thought it was cheating, but it sure takes a while to do that. I did start doing it with new tracks I've hardly listened to or rarely played ones. #1 problem eliminated: for example from very long transitions + effects playing, I've got about 2 minutes to pick & match the next one; looking through the records, choose one, set it up and realize its way too slow or fast, now I've got a minute

How exactly is writing the BMP on a record/cd gonna help you beat match???? Unless you are actually going to be looking for too tracks that have the exact same BPM, LOL

I write the key and BMP on my cd's and my mixes iz soooooo tight, guess im not a rel dj

Averyone else has already said it all. BPM counters aren't accurate enough plus they go all over the place during breakdowns so just use em as a quick guide then use them flappy things on the side of your head from there
