First hardware synth: JP-8080 or Virus B?

Which would be the best buy if I intend to use it along side soft synths like Synth1, maybe in the future V-Station and Vanguard when I can afford them.
So far I've been researching the JP alot and almost decided on it, but just recently I discovered that you can get a Virus B for roughly the same cost.
I know the supersaw is dated but I like the sound when it's used right. The JP also has more to offer than the supersaw, like the feedback osc and XFM.
If I choose the Virus B, can a supersaw be somewhat recreated on the it using it's high multitimbrality and polyphony or would I need a TI? (The TI is way out of my price range, btw)

By the way, the prices I can get them for are:

JP-8080: 550 EURO (A bit overpriced, I know)
Virus B: 500 EURO

I listened to the vengeance virus soundsets. They sound really cool, but I'm wondering how much of it is the Virus TI at work. And if they would sound worse on a Virus A/B/C.

I googled for 'cool words' and stumbled across Eldritch hehe, now I know what it means.

You can get the supersaw timbre on the Virus but it wont be as bright.

I say get the virus because it is so versatile, has great fx (reverb for example is definately good enough for tracks, something J00F has commented on and I'm sure many well known tracks will have used it) and much higher in polyphony.

Also, the Roland Sh-201 is basically a re-release of the JP-8000. In a year or so ebay will be full of cheap used ones around £250, $400. Then if you still really want the Roland supersaw you can get it cheap.

I had the SH-201 for a while and it was good but I got bored even after a couple of weeks! I took it back and got the Virus Classic and I really don't miss the Roland at all.

Virus is pretty tough as a first synth so if you consider yourself to be less experienced with synthesis I would advise to take the roland JP.

I'd rather have a though first month learning my synth and have more synthesis power than the other way around. It's true that there are functions behind menus in the virus but once you get the hang of it it isn't that much of a pain.

Alesis Andromeda A6 !!!!

Oh I'm sorry, that's my dream first synth, and by all accounts fucking hard to program too, but weeeeeeeeeellll worth it!

I say go for the Virus, though you should be able to pick up a C for not much more.

Thanks for the replies.
It wouldn't be my first synth, but my first HARDware synth.
I have good experience with synths, I think so atleast.

The Ti isn't used for any of the soundsets. I think the first two soundsets were made on the B, then the next two on the C. I have the banks loaded on my Classic and they work fine.

To put the price of the Ti into perspective, a quick check in DV247 (one of the cheapest shops in the UK) the Ti is £1,499.00.

My soundcard is an EMU 1820m - a brilliant card. £200

My Waldorf Pulse - HUUGE 'add some analog' bass! £175 (with Vengeance set)

Virus Classic. - £670

M-Audio radium 49 Keyboard - Could be better, does the job. £110

TOTAL: £1,155

Leaves £345 - UAD-1 dsp card or put towards new monitors.

I'm not saying the ti is a waste of money, but to blow your whole budget on it... mmnn... subjective - I wouldn't.

That would be awesome, but for some reason both Virus C Desktop and KC are almost twice the price of Virus B around here.

Just what I wanted to know, thanks.
Not that I intend to just use those presets, I just used them as an example of what a Virus could sound like.

I will most like get the Virus B, then.
I can always get the JP-8080 sometime later if I feel like it.

You shouldn't compare older, less capable synths to a new synth with exponentional power, effects and vst integration. Besides, maybe you'll need a computer to house your soundcard and uad.
