Question Speed Reading: marketing scam?

I was just wondering if anyone has taken the speed reading course, whether it actually works.. do you actually retain the information?

or is it all just a marketing scam? thanks.

I always assumed it was true, but looking at that has me doubting that notion. I suggest downloading some speed reading training software, seeing how that goes and then enrolling in the course if you feel like it will actually help you improve speed & comprehension.

There are many documented and accepted exercises that both improve retention and reading speed.

Finding one that works for you and that you will be committed to learning/following is a totally different question.

I personally focus on retention over speed (with the caveat being knowing/understanding what parts are important to retain in the first place).

This is true.

I read real fast, but often I have to reread something b/c either my mind drifted off somewhere, or I skimmed over a paragraph in my rush.

Working in publishing, I know quite a few people around the office who have taken a speed reading course. They say it helps, but usually when they're asked what the book was about, it's a summary of the back cover copy. Hmmmmm...interesting...

Hmm..I am sure it helps a bit but I'd still say its a scam. Even I am trying to increase my reading speed

I googled speed reading and learnt about the fixation technique for increasing reading speed. Its really working well for me...but you have to put in a conscious effort for a week atleast. And it works only for general books...ones which have a lot of theory and arent very mathematical...

Just using the eye fixation method...I think I have increased my speed by atleast 3 times and it improved my concentration too...pretty rocking imo. See if it works for you!
