Hey everybody. I know I hardly ever post in the COR, and alot of you probably don't browse PDD much eigther. So I'm making this thread since I wanted as many people as possible for a poll instead of just restricting the number of participants to regular PDD posters and browsers. racial profiling is a methodology that takes common traits and behaviors of a group and uses those to help heighten awareness. The racial profiling title has actually never been part of the vernacular in legal situations. It is a negativism that was created out of the "profiling" that was introduced in the 70s it was I believe. They showed a disproportionate amount of ethnicities getting profiled.

These days its things like "Are they paying with cash, are they walking like they have balloons up their ass, are they nervous, is it a 1-way ticket" etc.

To show that it is racial in any way or written into the law is...illegal! and they wouldnt be stupid enough to do that as it violated numerous civil rights acts.

Racial profiling of muslims / middle easterners may seem to be happening but they might be exhibiting more of the red flag behaviors than someone else. Do you think it is unfair that people buying 1 way tickets to america from colombia and nicaragua get flagged as potential drug mules?

Someone and *It could be a white or black woman with babies* COMING from a geographic area known for producing a high threat level and exhibiting characteristics of a threat is very likely to get stopped as well.

It would be illegal and unconstitutional to do any sort of racial profiling...but geographic profiling with types of clothing worn, method of payment, general demeanor, is just fine.

Probable cause. PROBABLE.

I don't support putting a level 2 redundancy on federal agents with middle eastern backgrounds.

Just a note to those of you obsessing over the semantics of the issue, Ethnic Profiling is generally the preferred phrase to describe the generally unacceptable practice of profiling solely based on:

1. Geographic Origins
2. Relgious Preference
3. Race

And while profiling based on #'s 2 & 3 certainly seems dubious to me - geographic profiling, in a limited sense, seems acceptable.
