Intel Mac's and VST Plug-ins

I recently downloaded a few VST's, and installed them (they appear in "Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST's").

When I launch Ableton, and re-scan plug-ins, Ableton does not show any of the plug-ins.

If I right click on the plugins, they appear as "Power PC" VST's.

My question, do plugin's need to be universal binaries in order to work? Clearly it's preferable, but is it required?

the have to be universal yes. which ones are you having trouble with? very few thigns are universal binary as far as music stuff goes, but its slowly getting there. Most of native stuff is already there.

Not ALWAYS... it might depend on the plug or the host app.

I use the MOTU MachFive sampler wich is still POWERPC and it works just dandy.
