REVIEW: EMSAY Presents: Electronica @ YorkU UnderGround Part 2
Strange that it's almost 2 and no one posted a review yet. I had a great time - there was good music all night long, and its cost:fun ratio cannot be beat
The guy before Drew was awesome, wicked tracks and solid mixing.
Drew threw down one hell of a set too. Way to put in Robert Miles man, that was the best surprise of the night! Couple of things, I didn't like the way you mixed in the next track after Without You - it came on too rough/sudden. Also, the track you played after Dance for Life kinda didn't fit in with the rest of the set - waay too Techy, but it was a good track nevertheless, it just gave that "where did that come from?" feeling when it came. Other than that, you were flawless man, awesome job.
The Jungle DJ after Drew KILLED it though. Incredible track selection. He started off with a bit of cheesy DNB with Pendulum - Blood Sugar, and then into the Pendulum remix of Voodoo People, but after that, he settled into one of the most wicked classic Jungle sounds I've ever heard. Almost every track was killa. SICK. His mixing blew though. Especially in the first half (did anyone notice it got progressively better in the second? It's like he was learning to use the mixer as he went along, lol), he would just suddenly cut to a song with a totally different tempo, and it would fuck things up. The best part was seeing the dancefloor empty as soon as Jungle came on, lol. I'll give the DJ credit for trying to keep everyone there with the easier-to-listen-to Pendulum, but it clearly was not working, so I guess he just went to his own style when he saw this.
The crowd was a bit funny - a lot of the people gave me the distinct impression that they were complete n00bs when it comes to clubbing, lol. All these people flailing their glowsticks around - on more than one occasion I saw a glowstick fly across the floor because someone was having too much fun with it, lol. Lightshow, you were definitely missed. But the best of the night was this one blonde guy in a white dress shirt. Wow. I wonder how many pills he did that night, because judging by the way he was moving across the dancefloor (how many times did he sprint from one side of the dancefloor to another and then back again while waving his 6 glowsticks around?), it was a lot.
Good stuff.
P.S. I met Mako there!!! WTF?!?!
P.P.S. Where was Jeff/Extasie all night? And some other people on the rollcall that I remember seeing? The only TAs I've seen (besides the DJs and the people I was with) was... Dannie, lol.

I was about to press submit and my laptop froze, and that was the review thread, dammnit!!
anyway!, here we go again:
I was glad I ended up attending this after realizing that I have no ride to TiL
got there around 12pm with Cosmic Fur, Engine9 and me@at katie...
Matt Marshall was already ripping it on the decks, keeping the crowd very pumped I def wanna hear more of this Marshall dude! amazing track selection, solid mixing skills, 10/10 as Bogdan said, classic hands in the air kind of trance, and we def needed a fix of that last night, well done!!
Now, it was Endgame who stole the show IMO! Drew, you were fucking phenomenal! First time to hear you live and I was mega impressed - fantastic mixing, pleasing track selection (Alex M.O.R.P.H & Rank 1 - Life less ordinary, Terranova & Austin Leeds - Only you (Electro Mix) only to name a few of my personal faves), great interaction with the crowd - Drew never stopped smilling and busting moves here and there... and OMG to end the set with Robert Miles was just too much 10000/10 one thing is clear - we need more Endgame gigs!
aaaaand the d'n'b/jungle guy - the only thing that saved him was great track selection.... his mixing and transitions sucked pretty bad, I mean to cut Voodoo People dead and have 1-2 seconds of silence is just not what you should do... I'll give him bonus points for starting with Slam though overall a 5/10 for this guy, and he needs to practice more!
haven't seen any other TA's apart from the ones I arrived with and the Dj's who played, but as always was a pleasure to share a couple of dance-offs with Dannie, mwah hun
overall a pleasant freebie night of tunes and great company!

also, regarding ZQuest (the dnb DJ at the end):
He had never used the 1000MK3s before.... when he is on equipment he knows, he's a damn good DnB DJ.

Yeah, Drew's crowd interaction is one of a kind, lol. He can get a crowd going with no music playing, lol.
