Reading the CDJ-1000 mk3 manual (quick Google reveals a pdf at: http://www.performanceaudio.com/med.../162/3716_m.pdf), error E-83 4 corresponds to
"Does not conform to MP3 format.
= Change to disc conforming to MP3 format."
If I were to venture a guess, I'd say maybe the Pioneer MP3 decoding isn't as flexible or something... maybe a firmware update will resolve it.
Can't really think at the moment, though. Personally, I wouldn't use MP3s, but I understand and acknowledge it's usefulness (burning 40+ tracks/CD if you're in a pinch).

Stay away from cheap brands. I've had a few too many data CDRs fail on me (usually redundant cyclic errors, kind of like a bridged groove on vinyl).
I think I'm using Imation-brand CDs; I bought inkjet printable ones, even though I don't actually have a printer. There's one brand (the original) known for it's quality and archivability, but I'm not sure if that's necessary for this application. They're slightly more expensive, but it's probably worth it. The brand name is Tao Yuiden or something like that. I think Imation should be fine, but you should try another brand to see if it's your CDs or your CDJs (since they seem to play fine in other players).
