Technically... yes. They're ok for a beginner DJ. But the key in that line is the word 'Beginner'. If you just want to get to grips with the concept of DJing, do some mixes, not spend too much money on your first DJ set up - then sure, they'll do.

Much like belt-driven turntables, CD decks like the ADJ300's are simply budget kit, that you buy when you can't afford something better. You'll be able to learn all the basics of DJing on them, you'll have fun, and over the course of 6 months to a year, you won't find anything wrong with them (probably, I'm only looking at specs here, I've never used them) - until you start to look for something better.

What I'd suggest is either save up the extra $200 and get a pair of CDJ200's as suggested - which'll probably do you for your entire home DJ career - or, get these budget decks, and start saving now to get something like the CDJ1000's in a year's time.

Someone very wisely said on this forum one, 'Buy cheap, buy twice' - and it's true. If you get these cheaper CD decks, you'll use them and you'll like them - until you stop liking them. Spend a little more money now, and you'll probably never upgrade them - or spend a small amount now, and then spend a lot more upgrading to something that'll then seem 'worth it' in a year's time.

It's all a point of view thing. If you've only got $600 - and are bursting to be a DJ - then no one's going to change your mind anyway - but if you can just hold off another couple of months (or whatever), then I'd go with the CDJ200 suggestion.

in may 2006 i was desperatly dying to buy some decks. anything that played CD's was 'just fine' in my book. I bought a pair of gemsound CDT 525's, and wootwoot was I excited. I wasnt really sure what was what at the time (except for pio's, i knew they were amazing, but i didnt have the coin for them), so I went ahead and got them. I bought 2 CDT's and a used gemini mixer off ebay for about $350. I was so yay about it, i got what I wanted, dirt cheap.

Well, I started playing on them, learned to beatmatch ect, but shit started acting up on me. CD's would stop ejecting, pitch wouldnt shift when I moved the sliders, ect.

It's 2007 now, and I've got $500 on me atm, and have been debating whether or not to wait a lil longer, or to just buy something thats decent to get me by until I can buy again, but after writing this, and thinking about the 'buy cheap, buy twice', i think ill be a complete jackass if i dont wait. fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I'm gona try to sell off my shit and save enough for some second hand CDJ 1000's

SO anyway, the point of this story: DONT BUY CHEAP, it WILL BITE YOU IN THE ASS!

cheap gear doesn't have much resale value

you'll be lucky to pawn it off on some unsuspecting beginner

most of the time you'll be better off just tossing it in the trash

wait those few extra months or however long it takes to save, it's worth it
