I noticed that there seem to be 2 versions of PvD - PoD floating around the 'Net: The "Retail" versiona and the "Promo" version. What's the difference between the two? The only difference between one I have that's LABELED as Promo and another, which has NO label on it, is that the PROMO version of CD 2 is 78 minutes, 18 seconds long and the other CD 2, is only about 74 minutes long. Is THAT the only difference? If so, WHY didn't PvD release the FULL version that's 78 minutes long? There are plenty of 80+ minute official releases of albums out there! I even saw an album (Classical) where the CD was 80 minutes, 9 seconds long! That's CLEARLY over the 80 minute mark! |
Ministry of Sound is too fucking cheap that's why! All of their promo CD's are 74 min in length, and not a second longer! Yes the only difference is the length of the Retail cd is longer!

Unless you plan to transfer them to Minidisc, which tend to have a maximum length of 74 minutes.

First of all, I assume that you're talking about the "SP Stereo" sound mode. Second of all, THERE ARE 80 MINUTE MD BLANKS OUT THERE! You can get them at www.minidisco.com . Now, You CAN fit more than 60/74/80 minutes onto an MD using either the LP 2 or LP 4 modes (if their available or your MD recorder!). LP 2 can store up to either 120, 148, or 160 minutes per MD, depending on the disc used. The LP 4 mode can store up to 240, 296, or 320 minutes, depending on the disc used. You should also note that the quality is reduced in both of the LP modes. The bitrate for "SP" MDs is approx. 292 kbps, so, that already means that you're getting pretty low by the time you reach LP 2. LP 2 is GREAT for portable listening, while LP 4 can produce SOME artefacts and it's VERY hard to search within a track in this mode (even though you have to hold the button to search, the timer moves MUCH slower than in the other modes!)! I HAVE heard artefacts in the LP 4 mode (what do you expect? It's about 68 kbps!), even though it's not as bad as MP3 at that very low bitrate. I would record livesets in LP 4 if it weren't for that damn SUPER-SLOW search feature! So, you need any more info on MD? Go to www.minidisc.org. They are ALL you need! It's a BIG portal like www.lnkworld.com except, for EVERYTHING MiniDisc-related!
THANKS!!! I hope any of this helps!
