Hi Guys just a quick question. I'm not sure if there's any software on the market that can do this or if indeed anyones ever tried it, but I'm wanting to record what is happening on my PC and save it as a video. The reason I want to do this is because I would like to make a dvd of one of my mixes on Traktor DJ Studio, so as well as having the sound of the mix, I would like to have a video of the whole Traktor mix so that you can see what I'm doing with the set. I.e. record the Traktor visuals from beginning to end.
Any feedback would be great, Cheers, DJ HARN.

I think this would be hard to do because recording full-resolution screen video on the same machine as Traktor is going to require an extremely fast computer. However if the computer has an extra video-out such as most laptops maybe you could record the video with another computer.
A simpler method is to use a DV camcorder pointed at the screen, works OK if you just want to show part of a LCD screen. But the camcorder does get in the way. I have done this just for short clips with the camera zoomed in on a part of the display to show something, such as this clip I made to illustrate a problem with a momentary freeze in the display (caused by a battery driver problem in Windows XP). The resolution is a lot worse if you try to show the entire computer screen, since DV is not good enough for that.
The audio could be captured to the camcorder by microphone, which is low-quality. For higher quality I used a direct connection from the computer line-out to the camcorder mic-in, with an attenuator pad in between to reduce the level about 40 db. Then I captured the DV video and audio from the camcorder to another computer by Firewire, and editted it there and rendered it to a small file.
you ever thouht of using a very very good quality web cam .. it may work ?

Fraps should work just fine. I can't say I know of any others, especially since I don't really have a use for these types of programs.
+1 for making a Traktor video, perhaps a tutorial video?
You're gonna have to watch your compression settings (do a couple of test runs for short periods) so you get a good balance between quality and compression (and file size, uncompressed images will run about 1Gb for 30 seconds) - but if you read enough into the program, know a bit about what you're trying to do with it, you should be just fine.
If you've got any more questions about sorting it out, keep posting - I'm an editor for a TV company, so I know a couple of things about this.
Just a couple mind, and that's one of them

Cheers for that, I'll try it. The only thing I'll have to make sure of now is the file size, because recording for over an hour will be exremley hard on the PC.
