Direct X 10 Games -- what are your plans?

Well I've been mulling over a conundrum for a bit now.

With the release of Vista comes dx10. There aren't many dx10 games lined up yet, but the ones that are are droolarific. Namely Crysis and Hellgate: London. I pretty much want to buy Crysis the second it comes out.

So, in order to play these I need a dx10 video card. My current computer is pretty good, and it's only a year old, and I certainly don't want to scrap it yet. It could run Vista no prob, but a new dx10 card would require a new PSU and mobo for me -- which essentially means an entirely new computer. I don't really want to spend the money on a new rig right now. I've also been told it would be wise to wait for 2nd gen dx10 cards.

So are any of you guys planning on rushing out and getting new hardware for dx10 and vista?

I only buy new computer stuff when I can't run new games on the lowest setting. So that allows me to buy a mid-range computer every 3-4 years. If I wanted to play every new game on the highest setting I would have to upgrade every 2 years and buy top quality stuff. It just isn't worth spending thousands of dollars more to see water sparkle more, nose hair, or make mud look more real.

Right now its not a good time to upgrade to Vista. There aren't any games that take advantage of DX10 yet. There will be in about a year.

Wait till Vista is out a few months and all the teething problems with vidcards/drivers/DX10 are sorted.

Also the inevitable hack that lets DX10 be installed on XP machines

Another problem I see with Vista is its DRM restrictions. In order to see HD premium content. You must have a video card and monitor that is HDCP compliant, If they aren't, The videos will be downgraded on purpose. Vista is being built as a DRM platform and it will limit what you can and can't do with the content.

probably late 08/09. I might buy a dual core processor when they get cheap enough, but I basically overhauled every part of my box this last summer. UT3 should work fine on this, and that's really one of the only upcoming games I really want to play.

I bought some new components about a year ago. Not in a hurry to upgrade. I'll wait for a year or so before I go for a completely new box.

Im waiting until the R680 or R700 comes out. I will wait for the A15 silicon to appear on the cards (much higher working clocks than the A12 for the R600).

Video cards only come out once or twice a year now, but its typically big improvements.

My plan is to wait until ati puts out a dx10 card and see how it stacks up to the 8800 or whatever nvidia has out by that time, until then my 1950s in crossfire should be just fine.

i have an 8800 but i bought it coz it was fast, not coz it was dx10 ready. i cant see myself upgrading to vista anytime soon. i really doubt the differences between 9 & 10 will be worth it. and all games will run worse under vista. ill wait a while til vista is cheaper and bug-tested by all the keener nerds out there.

yeah and new cpus every 6 months, new chipsets every year, new memory, new hard drive interfaces, etc etc.

they don't all come out at the same time, so its impossible to stay on the edge more than a couple of months at most.
