Subwoofer.

Right now i have a pair of krk rp5s
They seem ok.
How beneficial would getting the rp10s or whatever the subwoofer is called be? Am i missing out on that much with just the rp5s? I sort of want to get a synth or something instead.

Also, regarding subwoofers... according to specs, most subwoofers produce sounds that we cannot hear. I guess it produces alot of sounds that you feel more than you hear. So, in this case wouldnt subwoofers be more likely to damage your hearing? I assume if you're feeling the sub in your stomach or whatever, even though you don't hear shit, its got to be pounding on your ears right?

EDIT: I also listen to and make my music at fairly low levels. Is this an issue with subwoofers? Are they only "effective" at higher decibal levels? Or should this subwoofer still be able to produce the proper low frequencies at nice quiet levels?

You would enjoy your listening a lot more with a subfoower. The only negative aspects are acoustics + your neighbours. If your walls are plasterboard and you have no acoustic treatment, I would skip the subwoofer for now.

+1

Don't buy a sub if your room isn't treated. If anything, sell your RP5s and buy something bigger. When you add a sub, you add an extra sound source which can potentially completely screw your stereo image - it depends where the sub cuts off but its still not ideal.
