I could care less about Vladmir Putin or George W. Bush and their remarks about freedom and democracy. Iraq has demonstrated in no uncertain terms the capabilities of achieving democracy at the barrel of a gun. What you seem to not grasp Q5 is my slightly pejorative attempt at highlighting how some of the most questionable of leaders can now assert the U.S. is the arbiter of global unrest and lacking crediblity to make assertions about Democratic principles around the world.

Might I ask "stand behind what liberty" are you speaking of. Its up to individuals in their own nations to stand up for their liberties and thus their future destiny, which they will in turn be responsible for. The concept of liberty has become so cheapened and trite today with far more influences at play than such a principle when our politicians speak. Don't ever be afraid to question what they say and moreover the true motives behind it.

you should care a little what those two say about freedom and democracy if you believe at all in freedom and democracy because it's those two who, arguably, have the most resources to affect the progress or decline of freedom and democracy in places that could most need it. Iraq has demonstarted in very certain terms it's willingness to join the fold like most Arab countries, but how easy is it to confuse the rationale of a murderous group of fundies with the capabilities or lack therof in a country with Iraq's history?

what you have to ask yourself is are they worth the effort? i think they are and their success is worth the Greater Middle East. the rest is noise.

i might add that there are no greater Democracies in history than were born from the barrel of a gun.
