embed switch?

just an idea that came to mind: how bout a switch in the profile/settings that when switched on it filters the embeds/shows them as plain text, and when disabled - shows them as they are meant to be seen?

not sure if this has been covered before, and search is failing atm, but is there some sort of method to the seemingly random functionality of embedded media (i.e. youtube vids), or is it purely a 'sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't' phenomena, causing it to work at times and just show the text at others?
