Question thoughts/experiences on the Evolution U-Control UC-33e

today's my birthday bitches!

thinking of getting this as a gift. thoughts? i've seen many people rock the shit outta Ableton with one of these puppies. i'm interested in versatility for control of programs. the layout seems nice, 24 knobs, 9 faders, 14 buttons. it also says '33 memory locations', does this refer to settings/templates or like, memory for knob/fader positions, even if they're not at those positions?

also, where is the best deal for this thing? i've seen huge variations in price on the web.

thanks ahead guys.

i love my UC33. its pretty solid. programming it to ableton is very easy. just click the midi button on the top right corner of your screen and everything that can be controlled by midi (which is basically everything in there) will turn blue. then just click on the function you want to asign, then move the knob, fader, or button you want to controll that function and boom, its programmed. when you are done click the midi button again and go.

my only complaints are that the faders are a little tight, and the knobs are a bit too close together for me and my fat fingers.

solid piece, im glad i bought it.

ok i dont understand this...i did what you just said but it doesnt work like that for me. i have to use an external program called "enigma". are you using this?

even with the program, i still cant get it to assign knobs or faders, just the little buttons. heeeeeelp!

really? i was under the impression everything MIDI was set up as Vero described. just like when you set up your keyboard to act as a controller.

try to reinstall maybe?

if he was using enigma to set up his midi controls he could be using a non CC type midi signal for various faders/knobs/etc. also check that that the CC #'s your using to be mapped aren't already taken by firmware functions (which is the case with some midi products, ie read your manual and check the midi charts in your appendices). all else fails, revert to the original midi presets or templates and if you still have a problem reinstall? also i supposed i could write up a review of the Remote SL Zero when im not so busy (which is why I said PM since i simply dont have the time to write up a thing).

I've owned the beauty for a couple months, and its great. I use it for Live alongside a Korg Pad Kontrol and I can't believe how amazing the pair are together.

My only thing is by looking at the manual and features, it seems theres actually alot of fancy programming that can be done, but I'm really not quite getting it...

But for any program where MIDI mapping is a snap, Ie. Live, Torq...

This thing is a beauty and you'll really dig it

Never had problems and is smooth and responsive as hell

ok this might be a stupid question, but did you check your midi config in the ableton preferences? i dont use enigma, or anything like that. i just map the controls i want directly into ableton. simple.

I've got the UC-33's little brother the UC-17 (aka X-Session, original type). I like it. Probably the parts in the UC-33 are similar to what is in the UC-17 X-Session.

Only problem with the X-Session is a couple of the pots and the x-fader sometimes are a bit erratic after 2 or 3 years, causing the controlled parameters to jump around a little. Can usually be fixed by working the controls a few times before using. Possibly squirting some volume control cleaner fluid in the controls would clean them and fix the problem, would require opening the case and removing the knobs, not too difficult.

You get a lot of knobs and faders on the UC-33 so it might be good for Traktor 3.
