I'm going to be travelling/moving to Asia in about 2 months or so and I'm looking to get a laptop. So I need something light and portable. I don't want a one of those 17" behemoths that are the size of the starship enterprise.
Macbook or Pc laptop?
If I get a macbook would be a problem to use in Asia? Or would it be a better idea to get a Pc laptop? Ideally I'd like to spend 1200 or less.
I don't play games, so all I'd really need is to download stuff, surf web and maybe fiddle with some music programs. I'm thinking that since I don't play games i can sacrafice some processor speed for more memory?
Thanks.

I have a powerbook and an IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T60P.
The only thing i like more about the T60p is the fingerprint security LogIn.

If you arent going to play games then go with a Mac...
I only use my PC now when I play games, I just find the Mac more suitable for music and everyday objectives.

Why not consider buying one there? Notebooks in Asia are usually a LOT smaller (if you think the current line of Apple is small, wait until you see some of the ones there [fujitsu, toshiba..]).
Not sure about prices, though. Also, you'd have to consider about OS language (if it's OSX, it's easy to switch, but it's probably cheaper at home) and software issues.

And many many more dollars too. Well, at least in Japan they are. The average household in japan doesn’t even have a computer or washer/dryer. Electronics are expensive as hell and yet there are huge flat screens everywhere at outside malls and stuff, it’s weird. But then again, I was there like 7 years ago. Maybe things are different now. Where in Asian are you going?
