Read This! UREI {Soundcraft} Discontinues Their Rotary Mixer

I guess sales wasn't high enough to keep it in production.

Nah, the "LE" in 1620-LE means "limited edition".

They had intended to discontinue the mixer for quite some time.

You can still get the Rane, it's a close second

Forgive me for saying that sounds more marketing than truth.

I understood they wanted to "Test The Waters" with a copy of the Original UREI to see how it would stand from the begining.

But, if they were bombarded with sales, they wouldn't stop production on the unit.

Re: Re: Re: UREI {Soundcraft} Discontinues Their Rotary Mixer

Certainly I'm sure if they had oodles of orders coming in, they would keep making it.

It's a great mixer, but a niche item. It has to be installed in a console or rack, and really has NO features to speak of. Sound quality and build quality are it's only strengths (which are very important, nonetheless).

In most booths with the 1620, you'll see tons of other gear (isolaters, sound level meters, etc) around it.

Seems most people want more than that these days.

The plain Jane mixer will always lose to technological driven products. It's not 1970 when Disco was the new underground. We live in a world where filters per channel, effects, and the crossfader are the norm.

When Soundcraft decided to release the Urei 1620 LE, every company was jumping on the Rotary band wagon. Could we say it was more "Trendy" at that time.

I even got a Gemini Rotary, and it offers more flexiabilty than the UREI 1620 LE. And while I wouldn't class those two as the same in terms of Sound Quality, the fact remains it offers all the modern day standards found in a Club Mixer.

People are just not going to spend $1000.00 on a mixer, with no modern day standard features unless it's a club install. In which, the club will buy external processing to acomadate the missing pieces.

In Mixers, it's always better to have extra than not having enough.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: UREI {Soundcraft} Discontinues Their Rotary Mixer

Just a correction...
The Urei 1620 was going for $1600 in the states.

Recently it's been found in the UK shipped to the US for around $1100, but that was because of the discontinued status.

I bought a Xone 92 Rotary for a little more than that. And it is MUCH more flexible.

Still, there's something to be said for those big knobs.

And honestly, if everyone was forced to mix only with volume faders, and only able to cue one thing in the headphones at a time, there wouldn't be as many half assed DJ's out there

I almost always mix using only the volume faders and one cue at a time. This is a sad day.

I pondered this mixer, as well as the rane, and ended up with the DJM800. I of course added the rotary kit and couldn't be more happy. For me, the added features of the 800 sealed the deal. Yes these other two mixers are excellent, but I agree that it's 2007, and for that price I'd like to see at least a few features built in.
