W3rd.
Good thing you brought this up rapfiend. I also experienced the same thing too and am still in the process of seeking other forms of electronica, simply because everytime I hear something from someone I didn't like 2 years ago, it's now gotten to the point where I find myself hitting the "repeat track" button on the track and/or set. A good example, being Armin V. Buuren. When he brought out Boundaries of Imagination, I just could not bear the sound of annoying synths and high pitched keys, not to mention that back in the day I used to be a hardcore punk and almost started a band with some friends from high school. Then slowly, I noticed I always went back and played that track again that caught my attention the first time, for some odd reason. Soon I found myself enjoying his tracks even more.
Same thing with Junkie XL. I always used to think Junkie was waaayyy too mainstream for me and that I just couldn't adjust to his sound. Not until 2005 (Armin/Junkie/Oakenfold gig) did I realize that this guy had a potential to create a variety of sounds that sooner or later would grab a hold of me, especially his remixes. Moreover, Gabriel & Dresden is one duo I hated for the life of me. But then I knew that these guys always threw something in there that made me wanna dance and jam to. That set they played at Bar-Rio 3 weeks ago blew me away. Not only was it the first time I'd seen them live (from which I purposely always avoided their gigs), but it was the first time I knew that these artists and dj's in the world of dance music, no matter what kind of style it is, have one hell of a talent that they KNOW will move a crowd and influence people globally. Even dj's on this board (Steve, Matthias, Dirk, Dave, James, Jake, etc...); I used to ignore the threads they posted up on here as links to their sets when I first joined on TA. But each one of them have impacted me in an unbelievable way that no words can explain the talent these guys have. It is the reason I am a believer of their sound, and is what continues to fulfill my music needs, everyday.
