The four-on-the-floor 909, particularly the in-your-face 140 bpm variety, seems to be on it's last legs particularly in the commercial scene. It's already disappeared from dance compilations except for Darude an a couple of others. Will it continue in the underground? Will it die like the Amen break? Just like the amen break isn't dead (i love it!) the 4/4 kick isn't dead either. And there's another difference. Amen brother is the SAME EXACT loop (sampled) over and over (cut up maybe but still) when the kicks are home made kicks of all sorts. So what prediction is next? Will the use of electric guitars die away in rock music?

Electric guitars are toast! Especially Les Pauls, too many punk bands are using them.

Ok, so I exaggerated up there. But this IS the producer's part of the board, and I'm sure at least a few people here are in the process of looking ahead, particularly those who are label-deal-hunting. And things do change over time, and as IronDragon implied, things evolve.

I think 4/4's mixed with breakz could be the next big thing...

But there's tons of ways of being innovative....sampling drums from 80's records is hardly that innovative. I'm not saying it's bad either, personally tho I don't really like it in trance...gimme a pounding 4/4 kick....so you can bounce to it!

any type of breakbeat should stay away form Trance, it has nothing to do with creating the hypnotic feal.

and I think the next big thing would could be a new style of melodic Electronica.

lol when did it disappear? on it last legs ??? I think the 4/4 is the most used time signature out of all the styles of modern music

the 4/4 time will be hear to stay just like all the other time signature's

heh, yeah 4/4 is gonna die and they're gonna bring back the waltz into the clubs.

Tsk! I meant quarter notes on the kick drum, not 4/4 the time signature.

But as long as we're on the topic, 6/8 is totally underrated! (Or maybe it's 12/16 if you count what sounds like a full bar. Think of that electro-disco remake of Knock On Wood from around late 70's-early 80's.) No clue how anyone dances to it, though
