Noob Alert!!!

Hi just to introduce my self firstly, im mark iliffe a dj/producer from midlamds uk. i have been djing for 5years and producing for 8 months.

I lack alot of knowledge and technical ability on the production front, but my ideas, sequencing etc is really good as i know trance inside out after djing and listening to it 24hours a day for years.

My set up is as follows - Mac book pro 2.16, behringer truth monitors, logic 7.2 and novation xiosynth. basic set up. but want to get to a good level before buying more kit.

My first problem is my xiosynth is hooked up to my computer and it works as a midi controller fine when im using logics onboard synths, but as soon as i want to use one of the xiosynth sounds it wont enter the notes on a piano roll. I have to record the sound in as audio? Where am i going wrong?

Can anyone help????

Hi Mark,

Sounds like the midi goes into your sequencer as you can control logics synths, but no midi is sent to your synth.
You have a cord from the midiout of your soundcard to your midiin in your synth?
Also, you have to set up the output of the midichannel in your sequencer to send to the midiout of your soundcard. Also, check that your synth has midi enabled, should be somewhere in its settings, it must be set to recieve midi.

Right - the synth has a built in midi and audio interface, i will try the rest when i get home and let you know, thanks for promt reply tho. Do you have logic?

Nope running cubase, but their all the same really

Ah good to see your in to "proper trance music" from looking at your myspace.

Sounds like I'm pretty much the opposite to you then, I've been on Cubase since last year (ok so not 5 years like your djing) and will hopefully have something finised soon... lol.

I had my CD Decks stolen last year but will be getting some new ones soon.

Wheres baby passion night then?
